Mmm... Interesting.

Might have something to do with Aero? In another game it dropped to 2-5fps, yet with Aero disabled I was getting 100... I'll report back with findings.

Edit: Doesn't seem to do much, if anything. Someone else with the stutter can try though.

Yea mate fully understandable I think exactly the same thing, only reason I ordered the newer card was cos at the time my 8800GTX had died and got the new one for a bargain.

Off topic - I had artifacts/lines on bios/load up/windows screen and kept BSOD when it finally got into windows with artifacts as well, also displaying weird colours, wasn't able to run it with any nvidia drivers... long story short I ended up baking it in the oven (had nothing to lose as it was broken already)for the second time :P and fixed it... again lol. Have done this twice to the same card so yea can confirm it works.

Pm me if you are unsure of anything.

Now back on topic. :P

So.. my hard drive with Win7 died the other day..

I installed steam and CoD:BO onto my other hard drive with XP install..

And wow. I can play the game now!!

I tried every other trick when using Win7, and nothing worked at all.

Now, using XP, i have no stutter whatsoever :):):)

I haven't checked but this doesn't work. Needs to be the real deal so they say.

A few more fixes guides, I'm still trying the stuff relevant to me. The game actually runs pretty spot on around 80fps it just crashes here and there in mp.

Call of Duty Black Ops Crashes, Freezes, Errors, and Fixes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After going through lots of issue in Call Of Duty Black Ops i have finally come up with the some of tricks to resolve the issue related to Call of Duty Black Ops Crashes, Freezes, Errors. Here i am giving you some general solution which might help you to play the game fluently.

Call of Duty Black Ops Crashes, Freezes, Errors, and Fixes

First of all check whether you are satisfying the System Requirement to play the Call Of Duty Black Ops. Install the latest Graphic and Sound Driver for your device. For latest driver trust on Manufacturer site. Very important this is to set your desktop to a resolution of 1024×768 and 32 bit True Color. This is different for all the Windows Operating system.

To know about your resolution setting go with the below instruction.

Windows XP
•Right Click on desktop empty area
•Select Properties from Context Menu
•Go to Settings tab.
•Select screen area to 1024×768.
•Set the colors to Highest (32 bit).
•Click Apply
•Click on OK

Windows Vista\7

•Right Click on desktop empty screen
•Select Personalize from Context menu
•Click on Display Settings
•Select resolution to 1024X768
•Set the colors to Highest (32 bit).
•Click Apply
•Click on OK

Some more trick to run the game without any issue.

Close All Background Application

Some time background application are causing the issue with the gameplay and it is advisable to close all background application before starting the game. To close Back ground process go with this:

•Click on Start
•Click on Run
•Type "msconfig" and hit enter
•Go to Startup Tab
•Click on "Disable all button"
•Click on Apply
•Now go to Service Tab
•Check "Hide All Microsoft Services”
•Click on "Disable All Button"
•Click on OK
•Click on Restart Button

Fix For Sound Acceleration in Windows XP

If you are running Windows XP and getting any kind of sound issue the i will suggest you to go with the Sound Acceleration fix given here,

•Click the Start button
•Select Settings
•Click on Control Panel.
•Open Sounds and Audio Devices
•Click the Volume tab.
•Go to Speaker Setting
•Click On Advance button
•Click On Performance tab.
•Slide Hardware acceleration to Basic
•Click on Apply
•Click on OK

Force Disc installation.

If your game is not giving the proper response on the Steam then there might be some of the issue with the installation of the Call Of Duty Black Ops which can be resolved with the help of the uninstallation and reinstallation of the Call Of Duty Black Ops. But installation must be followed by this method:

•Start the steam
•Go to "My Game" tab
•Right Click on Call Of Duty Black Ops
•Click on "Delete local content"
•Insert Disk 1 into your DVD drive
•Exit from Steam
•Now Click on Start
•Click on Run
•Type "c:\program files\steam\steam.exe -install E:" (Without Quote, E: is your DVD drive)
•Click on OK button
•Insert Disk 2 if prompted for it
•Allow Steam to connect to Internet and download update

Deleting Temp directory

Windows temporary directory contain information about all the file which some time clashes with the other program in the Windows operating system which might be conflicting with the Call Of Duty Black Ops and decreasing the performance for same. It is better to delete the Temp Directory. Just go with the instruction to perform the same.

For Windows XP

•Click on Start
•Click on Program
•Go to Accessories
•Click on System Tools
•Select the "Disk Cleanup"
•Select drive(C: ) to clean
•Click on Clean up button.

For Windows Vista/7
•Click on Start
•Click On All Programs
•Go to Accessories
•Click on System Tools
•Select Disk Cleanup.
•Select drive(C: ) to clean
•Click on Clean up button.

If your running ATI crossfire (on win 7)- grab the new profile.. i may be crazy but i just played an hour solid and it played 100% normal (as in the way i expected it to play)
Running 2 x ati 5770 Ok yes they were cheap, but a big leap from an 3870
Intel 2 quad @2.4 (stock)- 4Gb ram - 1920 x 1200

I could only go one round without wanting to hurl the damn game out the window before .
Tonight for example playing HQ on Nuketown - no lag, no stutters -& absolute chaos.
First time ive actually played without getting frustrated.

Plus im running all the other fixes as well

Not sure why so many are having issues with bigger video cards that are failing to work. I use a 4870 and have most settings maxed on 1680x1050. 100FPS in most and drops to 50 odd when major action/explosion, still very stable and playable.

The setting for CPU multi-core from "0" to "1" helped a little and now see more balanced use of my 8 cores (2x quad-core Xeon's).

For some stupid reason, the game installed (after a lot of **** with bloody steam) and set the multi-GPU enabled for some reason, I only have a single card.

I have occasional sound quirks that only happen when entering some maps, I use a SB Audigy ZS rather than on-board poop.

Slow game loads suck dogs balls but I will leave it at maybe thing my Raptors are just too slow.... Pfffft

Excessive long waits for the games to quit and piss-off.

This all aside, the biggest gripes seen so far is the random high pings of both myself and other players. We can all be under 80 then all of a sudden, a couple will go 350-450 for 5-10 seconds then back again. Worse is when people on 3G connections decide they want to games and just hold high pings the whole time for which Node doesn't use "Low-Ping Only" servers which is a pitty.

I'm running win7 x64 home prem.
CodBO runs great.. Of course I don't have all the graphics turned up the wazoo.
It's all on "medium" except shadows, I always turn those off in any game.
(yay NWN).
Runs fine, doesn't stutter any more then anyone else on the same server. Less in some cases.
