You can try other peoples config without any risk by backing up your own config file. Copy and paste all your Binds over the new config's binds.

Jerk, you might want to try setting cg_fov "80".

Changed both of these to 0 and has eliminated just about all stuttering.
Am running dual core with (1)gtx460

seta r_multiGpu "0"
seta r_multithreaded_device "0"

I hope it helps someone

Strange as that is pretty much contradictory to what everyone else has said...

At this rate I'm willing to give anything a shot.

Haven't read the whole thread but yeah this helped reduced 95% of the stuttering.

Open Blops
Alt+TAB
Open task manager
set steam.exe and blops(whatever).exe to low priority

BAM.

Can actually get my monies worth now...

I believe it's been mentioned. Didn't really help me that much but that's not to say that it won't help others.

I tried this last night on Win 7 x64 as the stuttering was unplayable, it has fixed most of my stuttering and am now only slightly stuttering about every 10 seconds instead of every of 1-2 seconds. Am able to somewhat have a half enjoyable game now.

Tyvm for the tip RoadK!LL much appreciated. ;)

Anyways here's some food for thought, seems like it was either the new patch (installed BlackOps again the day the patch was rolled out so didn't get to try it on XP) or it is a combination of software and/or the operating system you are running.

I installed XP just before BlackOps came out as I had unrecoverable viruses running Win 7 at the time and my vid card appeared to have bit the dust so had to run it on default vga drivers to work. Ended up fixing my vid card and BlackOps was running perfect, no stuttering.

Specs were:-
Win XP SP3
Standard Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33ghz overclocked to 3.0ghz 1600 fsb
8800GTX
4gig Ram
BlackOps ran perfectly

I ordered a GTX285 off ebay and the day I received it (10 days ago) I decided to install Win 7 x64, installed BlackOps and ever since then have had nothing but trouble. Unplayable stuttering no matter what I did.

Specs now:-
Win 7 x64
Standard Mobo - Gigabyte GA-965P-S3
Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33ghz overclocked to 3.0ghz 1600 fsb
GTX285
4gig Ram
BlackOps stuttering - unplayable

I still have XP installed on another hard drive so when I get the time i am going to try it with the new patch and vid card, would be interesting to know how many of you guys are running XP and can play BlackOps with no problems, as well as system specs.

As far as I can see the problems are a big Treyarch stuff up either way whether it be the latest patch or releasing a game unoptimized for the latest operating system.

you should also add your cpu specs to that as well. doesnt give a good idea on what you are running.

im running:

win7 64bit
gtx275
4 gig ram
black ops runs perfectly.

but when i add my cpu and mainboard into the equation you might be able to understand why.

CPU - i7 930
MOBO: Asus rampage GENE II

im also running 2x24 inch monitors as well... i dont really know what any of u are experiencing as the game has run flawlessly since i bought it..

Max, I've got a GTX 275 and yeah, it's unplayable. I refuse to upgrade my system to play a game which SHOULD work fine.

Yeah reading from the steam forums installing Windows XP is an almost definite fix for this game, which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
