Tweeks and possible fixes

Unread postby LeX » 10 Nov 10, 9:03 am

I've Edited out some of the Freezing fixes as I believe they are no longer needed after the Patch. The connection settings and sloppy mistake fix are a must IMO.

You can try other peoples config without any risk by backing up your own config file. Copy and paste all your Binds over the new config's binds.

Turn OFF anti-virus before loading the game! - Some people report this has fixed a lot of their problems.

These Tweeks/fixes may or may not work for you.

Treyarch sloppy mistake Fix.
Change these 2 in the config file...
seta r_multiGpu "0" should be set to 0 if you have one video card.
seta r_multithreaded_device "1" Should be set to 1 if you have a multicore CPU (eg. core duo/quad core)

Freezing possible fixes.
Disable Steam Cloud sync:
Right click on Black Ops Multi in steam games
Go Properties -> Updates -> Untick Enable steam cloud sync.

Connection Settings, Open your config_mp file in wordpad, make a backup if you are unsure!.
(D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\call of duty black ops\players)
cl_maxpackets 100
snaps 30

FPS Tweeks.Open your config_mp file in wordpad, make a backup if you are unsure!.
cg_drawfps 1 - Displays your FPS in-game.

com_maxfps "##" A smooth Frame rate is important for maximum ownage, set this to 76,125. witch ever one your rig can maintain.

r_blur_allowed

This setting enables Blur shader effects. If you have a strong shader card, this setting may be negligible. Otherwise, just go ahead and set this to "0".

r_distortion

This setting enables Distortion shader effects. If you have a strong shader card, this setting may be negligible. Otherwise, just go ahead and set this to "0".

r_dof_enable

This setting enables Depth of Field shader effects. If you have a strong shader card, this setting may be negligible. Otherwise, just go ahead and set this to "0".

r_glow_allowed

This setting enables Glow (HDR?) shader effects. Normally, this should have a negligible performance impact. HOWEVER, this setting seems to be buggy! Performance improved DRAMATICALLY when I set this option to "0".

Other FPS settings from Anothny (page 4)
/r_aaAlpha "dither (fast)"
/r_specular "0"
/r_zfeather "0"

In console once i start the game up i type /demo_enabled 0 and this clears pretty much all my problems.
These are my in-game settings in case anyone wants to know:

Turning shadows and Anti-Aliasing off reduced a huge amount of lag for me.

I also turned "Sound Occulsion" off in the sound settings to maybe take load of my CPU from doing it?

Post up your results and if you find anything else.

Been struggling with single player all day, think I'll shelf it for a bit. The "glow" tweak helped a little. A 4870x2 shouldn't be as slow as it has been. Yuck

Thanks for that,

Will try out soon. It's pretty stupid really, i can max out single player (with steam.exe killed) and get a decent ~40 fps ish so its definitely playable.

However, even with my 3.6ghz Quad, 4gb RAM + HD5770, Multiplayer is a no-go. Only a very few matches online i've grinded through and managed to get to level 10 (leveling is pretty damn easy) before i just gave up and started the campaign.

Hoping for a patch in the next couple days :) :2gunsfiring_v1:

This helped alot, thank you.

I was amazed that I could run MW2, Fallout 3 and NV - all on max settings perfectly, yet Black Ops, which is without question graphically inferior to those games, barely runs on medium settings.

Combined with the horrible, horrible lag - this is a rubbish game.

Tried a few of these pointers, and it didn't make a difference for me (GTX 470, i7930). I know a few people aren't experiencing lag - if you watch the kill cam, it seems to be fine for some people. I don't think I'm going to play it anymore till a patch comes out.

I actually went against my instincts and bought it.
but other than the occasional stutter twice or three times a game I have no probs (performance wise anyways).

I am running:
Phenom II x6 1090T
4Gb DDR3
and a HD4890 (standard clocks)

I can run pretty much all medium settings at 1920x1080, possibly higher but graphics are not a big deal for me.

I will test at full max settings and report.

Edit:
Fraps Benchmark reports
Frames - 4237
Time - 60000(ms)
Min - 47
Max - 93
Avg - 70.617

Anyone else getting disconnected with a message about "session no longer available"? The gameplay is fairly playable but I get disconnected randomly with a message to that effect.

Has anyone found a fix for very few servers displaying in the browser (even with filters OFF); I have tried restarting Steam, restarting my router, forwarding all the ports I have found for BO and my computer has even been off during the duration of this problem.

seta r_multiGpu
seta r_multithreaded_device

if you have multigpu, set the number after multigpu to 1 (although for some reason, its set to this by default, change it back to 0 if you only have one card)

if you have a multicore cpu (who doesnt in this day and age), set the number after multithreaded_device to 1 (god knows why it was disabled to begin with).

in my case, setting the multigpu to 0 (i sold one of my 5850s a while ago so im not running crossfire) and multithreaded to 1 reduced the amount of 'freezes' dramatically. havent had any freezes in a while.

The above isn't my work.

The multithread change seems to have worked in singleplayer. I can now play in a res higher than 1024...

Same as me. At first I was seeing about 11 or 12 Aussie servers with 2 GON ones. After resetting etc I only see 5, none GON. All full. Very frustrated and disappointing.

Jesus christ. It just wouldn't be CoD if everything ran smoothly, would it?

You'd think they could at least do some proper testing before releasing something like this. It's a pile of ****. Can't get over 30fps, and even then it's super jittery.

Managed to get up to level 5 with KDR of 0.5, but it's just an absolute pain to play. They better fix this soon :x

Btw see here if you have no idea what I'm on about: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... ?t=1574176

It's fun to come back to this franchise and get such a warm welcome. Really makes me day

I'll admit gameplay is good, from what I can tell so far...
