Die2Nite - The Zombie Survival (browser) Game

Unread postby Mekon » 17 Nov 10, 11:12 am

Anyone else playing it?

http://www.die2nite.com/

A recent review over at RPS piqued my interest in this title. Given that the title is by invite only (closed beta), hunted around the net for a key and ended up emailing the developers directly... who seemed more than happy to hand one over.

It's quite an interesting take on the "you have X actions per day" theme, dropping 40 survivors into a cooperative game, tasked with building up the town's defenses, scavenging for building materials and generally trying to survive. Every night (the game runs in real-time) at midnight, the zombie Horde attacks. Anyone outside the walls dies. If the gate isn't closed, the town gets overrun. If the town defenses aren't up to the task, some inhabitants don't survive the night. Next morning, dump those corpses outside the gates or tomorrow night you'll have zombie on the inside.

There is a fair bit of depth involved, much more so than in most other browser games I've played - do I use that wooden plank to build up my own refuge, or donate it to the common cause to increase everyone's chances of survival? Do we build up the town wall to increase our defenses or build a new pump to increase water rations? Can I spare that food to allow my stupid neighbour to make it back to town? Each decision can be discussed in the town forums and if some people don't play well, they can be banished. If that doesn't work - hang them! :)

There's a bit of a learning curve, but there's always another town to try over again.

Might be worth seeing if Node could hit them up for a batch of keys?

Our town hit midnight on Night 3 this morning... everyone died as a 200+ zombie horde swarmed the survivors. Back to square one. :)

Hey Mekon,

I just stumbled across this in a magazine, and decided to check it out. I think it is out of closed beta now, as you can register and play for free.

Anyways, still very new to it but it appears to be quite an interesting concept. I'm on my 3rd town, 3rd day (died on days 2 in the previous two towns), and someone left the gates open LOL. Only 8 of us left, one of them is shunned.

I decided it's every man for himself, since if anyone survives tonight it'll be chaos tomorrow.

Some GONnites should go check it out~

Yeah, I'm still playing. :)

My personal best so far is surviving until day 23 (some fellow citizens straggled on to day 24, then demised). Those spikes get painful in the later days... 2970 zombies on day 23. We have some nasty record spikes as well, including a record 2446 on day 18.

Abandonned Crossroads - ranked 12 at die2nite.hoah.org

I enjoy the social engineering aspect of it, trying to get 40 people to agree... or at the very least co-operate, while dealing with griefers and trolls (cf: leaving the gates open).

onto my 3rd town. interesting game but if only there was more communication between the players D=

seems to be the reason why the towns fail.

Yeah, for sure.

Some towns I've been in have a lot of participation - discussions on the forums, organised expeditions, etc. Other have almost zero communication and are boring as batshit. Yet others are full of drama, personality clashes and griefing. :)

You win some, you lose some, but you always die in the end. :P
