Fav Retro Arcade Game

Unread postby Jimmah » 16 Aug 10, 3:04 pm

Come on people - everyone loves retro games.

List your fav retro arcade game. (Yes it's one of those threads)

I think mine has to be Bubble Bobble. When I was about 7 or 8 I used to love those little buggers.

NBA Jam, I don't care what the flavour whether it's the original,TE, remake or spin off....just give it to me  Boom-shaka-laka!

I recently picked up the PS2 remake version in anticipation for the new remake that will be released later this year. The game formula is a winner to this day.

I know people say number 2 is better, but for some reason, I thought the first was better.

Both are still awesome though!

Outrun (Arcade Version)

This game single handedly is responsible for my love of gaming. Seeing that arcade machine in the shell of a car as a youngster and the graphics/game play for its time (1986) was amazing. I would stare at that machine in wonder and amazement. My imagination of what other stages and potential improvements could be made went off like wildfire.

If we're speaking Arcade in the sense of arcade machine in the corner shop that you'll have to beg 2 dollars from a parent to play...

Street Fighter II was special (was actually my first game I played on an arcade macine) but I'll always hold a special place in my heart for Mortal Kombat. There was something magical about the opening sequence, seeing these life-like graphics of the combatants doing martial arts poses during the biographies. The sound, the visuals... it was just magical to watch as a kid.

Plus the fatalties were 'AWESOME!' at the time.

I spent far too much money on this game.

I did however, obtain the ability to clock said game.

Waste of coin? Nay, a geek investment!

I have a number of arcade titles that I'm rather nostalgic for - can't really choose. :)

If I have to, though, a perennial favourite:

Rampage

While I played a lot of the older titles back in the day (Gyruss, Galaga, Frogger, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, even Pong), the golden age of arcade titles, was in the mid to late 80s, imo (although it may have more to do with me having more disposable income).

In addition to Gauntlet (good call, Sath):

1942, Commando, Time Pilot

Wonder Boy - Monster Land (don't ask, something about that game demanded my money)

edit: What really, really rocked, though, was the Battletech pods... as seen at Intencity arcades back in the early 90s (sorry, can't find anything better than the flyer below on the interwebs):
