Changing a Static IP

Unread postby iNSOMNiS » 17 Aug 12, 1:24 am

Hey Guys & Girls :!:

I was wondering, is their a way I can change my from my computer? I tried Googling few ways but it always ended up in the internet not working. I was thinking here would be the best place to ask seeing as though I am an Internode customer and I have been browsing the forums for quiet some time now and recently gained two reasons to sign up and join in on the fun.
1. To try and change my IP
2. I am having the same problem pretty much as Truefruit. It's the reason I wanna change my IP, for a text based game ahaha.

By the way I play BF3 on PC ;) Just not atm because of the damn Video card or whatever is going on!

To change an ISP sided static IP you would need to ring your ISP and request for it to be changed.
Ring Internode (13 NODE) and ask them to change it, although I think you'd need a reason for the change, I'm not sure.
or, alternatively, you could use a VPN?

or depending on your situation, if that simply is not an option, tunnel through a proxy

Yeah that didn't work, I'm gonna have Node change it to Dynamic. I never host servers or anything.

i was gonna say if its via node and its a fairly normal plan it should be dynamic any how, but give them a call and they should point you in the right direction

Thanks Steve, I called them up but because I'm not the admin of the Node account, my mum is who knows nothing about computers funnily enough so hopefully tomorrow morning she can call and have it done. I'm not sure why ours is Static, well I'm quiet sure it is, anyway of telling?

Step by step.
1. http://google.com.au/search?q=IP (note your IP down)
2. Restart / Turn off Modem (then turn it back on a minute or so later)
3. Wait to reconnect.
4. Do step 1 again, if the IP is displayed differently then it's dynamic, if not, it's static.

or, if you know how to log in to your modem, you should be able to check in there. I can't tell you step by step for that since all modems differ substantially.
It may be possibly to check your IP's status in the Internode control panel, and may be possible to un-static it from their too.

This may help too: http://www.internode.on.net/residential ... Dynamic_IP (you need to know how to access your modem)

Sorry if I am dumbing things down too much, I'm not sure how computer literate you are.

If you are on a static IP you can switch to a dynamic IP by changing your login username to <username>@dynamic.internode.on.net.

When I tried that I'd have no connection to the internet anymore.
I'm having the same problem as Truefruit with Windows not seeing my Video Card and I've tried everything I could find in his thread. Should I just get a new harddrive to fix the problem or could it be something else?
