Video Driver Prob maybe?

Unread postby Nyn-Jah » 18 Jul 12, 1:28 am

Ok so the last 4 or 5 months ive been "putting up" with this and today i finally snapped... Not exactly but it is annoying.

The problem is, My PC BSODs when ever i turn On/Off my monitor. Ive tried New/Old Drivers and 2 different monitors(aswell as using a tv as a monitor) and the same thing every time.

Ive updated all drivers, reinstalled windows, tried older drivers and the like... Tried most combination of drivers and Win XP/Vista/7 to no avail.. Why its annoying me so much is when im Playing PS3 or Watching TV/Movie the way my desk is setup my 2 monitors are "under" my tv and in order for my pc not to spaz i have to leave them on which is distracting and annoying.

Any idea before i just go buy a new pc?

Does it do it with each monitor connected individually? With different cables? try a mates monitor?

Google the fault code on the BSOD and see what it says, can't say i've ever hear of this happening before, voltage problem of some kind maybe?

Can we have more information such as your PC specs?
I can perhaps offer some ideas as to your problem though. Are you connecting the monitors via HDMI? I have heard of common problems on various Operating systems where people mix HDMI and DVI where the HDMI input is detected by the OS as a TV and thus messes with the monitors.

Very unlikely the drivers, much more likely the setup.

If your system was working fine and you have not updated any devices. Also if you have tried a system restore to b4 your issues.

I would go with the power supply 1st, video card 2nd. If u have a 2nd rig u can swap a vid card with, go that 1st as it's easiest. Try a power swap out next. I know this sounds funny but you would be amazed at the crashes caused by power supplies that are on their way out often caused by spikes or drops you have just not been aware of.

Sadly, if its not any of the above, something in your MOBO may have fried. Upgrade time.

Sorry about the late reply. How would i go about getting the BSOD error code? its up for half a second and then its gone.

It shouldn't be any real setup problem because ive been running this setup for about 2 years.

Ive tried it with 2 separate monitors and a TV and still the same thing.

Video card is a GTS250, Both monitors are acer v193w and the TV is a 32' LED... Any other specs you need just let me know.
