I found out yesterday I can salary sacrifice a laptop or tablet though my work, nearly went down and bought an ipad then and there. Glad I didn't now!

Looks impressive. If I was interested in a tablet this would probably be it. Though sadly it's just more evidence that Win8 is not a desktop OS and is going to be a massive flop for desktop users.

How is this in any way evidence that Windows 8 is not a desktop OS and will be a massive flop?

Windows 7 works well right? Probably the best version of windows anyone has used. Windows 8 just seeks to have a uniform homescreen like a tablet for performing common tasks. That way there's no huge disparity to a default user between PC and Mobile/Tablet OS versions. You can disable it on a desktop PC and have it just like Windows 7 is now.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft recognise the position they are in. They know that 99% of what people use a PC for is now being replaced by functionality in portable devices like tablets/mobile phones. So having a strong presence in the mobile/tablet market is very important. They also know that people who do use a PC and a mobile/tablet have issues with how you do something on one device is often very different to how you do it on another. The Windows 8 OS is just trying to standardise for all devices how you interface with common tasks.

I was sold after seeing this acer tablet but this piece of kit is even more impressive.

Microsoft have pulled a serious coup here, as long as the planets align this thing will blow tablets and laptops out of the water as far I'm concerned. They need to keep things running smoothly though, my main concerns are over bugs in the OS but we'll wait and see.

EDIT:^just to add to the Windows 8 for desktops thing, if I can get the metro screen to operate anything like the launcher in Gnome-Shell with extras I'll just about be in heaven.

How?

My understanding is that there was a registry hack to allow you to disable the Start screen and revert to the Start menu (as in Windows 7), but Microsoft set to work removing all the related code after the initial Consumer Preview to disable that. They want developers to code for Metro.

No sweat. They will probably continue to support 7 for a while longer, XP had full support for 9 years after release.

OT: I want one, I just bought a Galaxy tab too -_-

I really hope this tablet is awesome and pushes some serious competition for the ipad, what we need is an innovation war :)

The ad for this was awful though, from what I gathered from it the tablet can smash rocks then melt whilst playing dubstep.......it really was a terrible ad I learnt nothing about the device from it. Or was this just me?
