My internet :(

Unread postby spike4379 » 13 Jun 12, 6:30 am

hey guys il cut straight to the point and would love if you could help out.

issue: my internet randomly goes off (using windows 7 64 ult) when i troubleshoot it it says the dns server isnt responding; when i reboot it works fine for a while but then it happens again. thats using my tplink modem. when i switch to the telstra thompson tg782t it works find but i cant use any sort of UDP and some connections like steam and teamspeak dont work. also none of the utorrent udp's connect they all timeout. (i use utorrent only to test for working udp connections ofcourse)my itouch seems to work fine at all times so im thinking something to do with win7.
one solution ive tried is setting the ipv4 to an open dns like
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
but still nothing happens. my friend accross the road said he also started experiencing disconnects but i think its dodgy my itouch's internet is working fine when its connected to the same modem via wireless. this pc is using an ethernet cable.

thanks for your time

Does the router have one of the DNS IP's in it's configuration, for your state.

http://www.whatsmydns.net/dns/australia ... gpond.html

Try one of the DNS IP's from that webpage, I had similar problems with some webpages wouldn't load and worked out I needed to also put the DNS IP into the windows local connection as well. (even though Telstra help say you don't need it)

Is the power management set to default for the network card it might be turning off to conserve power, just stabbing at this one.

next time the DNS fails. Open up CMD prompt and ping www.google.com - does it work?
Hit me up on Steam!
