Windows 8 is beginning to make sense

Unread postby diamondd » 11 Jun 12, 1:18 pm

VERY interesting preview I thought:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5968/acer ... -windows-8

still not going to replace our beloved gaming rigs just yet but it certainly doesn't seem as silly as I once thought. I WANT ONE! (at least a non-acer equivalent :P )

ASUS announced a few Win8 tablets at Computex. Not sure if this means they're abandoning Android or not though.

Win8 works really well on the Samsung slate, almost like it was made for it :P It's going to work brilliantly in the market and the business side (people with multiple devices (phone/tab/laptop/desktop)

Still does nothing for me on a desktop PC.

We had a Dell Slate in for review for Win8 and a Samsung also, i think the dell got knocked back due to speeds etc...

Kinda interested in this for work, since android tabs have been ruled out for us :x

Yeah, looks great! I can absolutely see these devices being used in the workplace. The moment he said Thunderbolt port I was sold! :D.

More then capable for day to day use with an external monitor/kb+mouse/HDD's, then unplug and walk off for a meeting or head home in a tiny form factor. I'm looking forward to seeing the first release of Ubuntu on android for that exact reason :)

Best thing is, these are normally pretty damn affordable!

yeah, such a good combo.

screw using the cloud to access all your files across all your devices, I'd much rather have one uber-device :D

its a good idea but speed and bandwidth limitations plus the fact its my stuff on other people's hardware really turns me off.

I doubt that. Android has attracted millions of followers in a short time and no tablet/smartphone/computer manufacturers could afford to abandon such market. while Asus announced several Win8 tablets this year, I believe that's just a part of being "not left behind" by other manufacturers in the same market. Apparently, Win8 market will boom in Q3 this year but will surely subside in the following months.

dunno about it subsiding.

I can see win8 IB tablets and slates dominating the work/enterprise market and the android devices running their quads and nvidia chips in the consumer arena.

Asus deploying in the enterprise area with these, especially after the early successes in the consumer market is very interesting.

I can see some of the stuff i do go paperless due to a slate, and this would be welcome... dont need an outsourced cloud when you have one yourself...

Thunderbolt is going to rock hard. Considering the gripes we are having with ultrabooks only supporting wireless and usb to ethernet adaptors being PITA... Be nice to see a 'workstation' thats a slate/tablet rocking a docking station/monitor all-in-one thats connected by thunderbolt...

mmmm very interdesting

Agreed, W8 tablets will be a force in the Enterprise market. Why suffer trying to use apps to edit your office documents when you can just install Office. Not to mention they can be managed via Group Policy, which will keep the IT department happy and management happy since the risk of data loss will be lowered.

I seen an offer if you buy a laptop with Win 7 Pro on it between 2nd Jun 2012 - Jan 28th 2013 you can get an upgrade to Win 8 Pro for $15 - Pretty sure I saw it on the Lenovo website.
