Monitors's Greens are too bright

Unread postby Cel » 2 Jun 12, 12:20 am

Hi all,

I've just bought an Asus VS248H 24" Monitor. I'm pretty happy with it overall, but I have noticed one fairly annoying thing. The greens are way too bright.

As a way to compare, I opened Photoshop, painted some lines of colours, spanned the canvas over the new monitor as well as my second, older monitor and took a photo:

Notice the black, the red and the blue are fairly similar. If I open anything, like a photo, that has no greens, and compare what it looks like on both monitors, it will look fairly the same. As soon as I see anything that is green however, it is immediately noticeable how much brighter the greens are.

My monitor's colour settings are set to Red, Green and Blue all at 100. I've tried bringing the green down a little, but it doesn't really fix it. I've played around with the Nvidia control panel as well, however that also can't fix it without screwing everything else up.

Now I know different monitors display colours differently, but trust me, these greens are quite extreme. I could open a picture of some grass on the other monitor, it would look fine, but when I drag it over to the new monitor it's FLUORO.

What I need to do is to lower the vibrance of the greens. I can lower the overall vibrance on Nvidia control panel, but can't select specific colour

Have you turned the brightness down to see if that is the case?

Do led monitors have a better colour range than lcd?

Have you tried these settings? I know they have a substantial effect on what you see.

VS248H Splendid™ Video Intelligence Technology

The exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology optimizes video performance and image fidelity by enhancing color, brightness, contrast, and sharpness. 6 preset video modes (Scenery, Theater, Game, Night View, sRGB and Standard) can be selected via a hotkey).

LCD's are not good for colour matching. What was the old screen?

Yes, well you can't not use them. You HAVE to choose one of the Splendid presets, then you can customise it. I've figured out that the one I was using (Theatre) is causing the Greens to be blown out. The only two settings which don't have blown out green is sRGB and Standard, however they have their own issues.. I just can't get this monitor to look right in all applications/photos/etc

In the Nvidia Control Panel, go to Display, then Adjust Desktop Color Settings, in the drop down menu change from All Channels to green, and adjust the gamma level.

How's that :?:
