Hard vs Soft Mouse Mats

Unread postby Ninja Catfish » 22 Feb 12, 10:07 pm

Not asking for advice, just curious.
Do you guys prefer hard or soft mouse surfaces, and why?

The only hard mouse surface I've used was the Razer eXactmat. I liked it initially, but after using a soft Kabuto for a while, I started to dislike the scraping feeling whenever I moved my mouse around it.

Currently on a soft mat (Razer Goliathus) which is much nicer feeling to me.
I'm willing to try a hard mat again one day when this one wears out, but it'll have to be a lot better than the eXactmat for me to like it.

Golathus here as well.. much nicer than the **** hard mousepad I have at work.. Feels nicer and offers a bit more resistance/control.

Soft because they make a good hand rest for extended mouse use as well.

Big reason, right here. I don't rest much more than the base of my palm on it but it beats having the hard edge of a mat or the table digging into it.

Another happy Goliathus user here. Would be happier if they were a little cheaper but I tend to kill a mouse quicker than the pad it rests on so... :)

I never used mouse mats at all, but when I built my new PC I bought a Steelseries QcK and now I don't know how I ever managed without a pad.

I have used hard mats before, and I find them utterly rediculous to use, pretty damn uncomfortable.

Same here, helps with duel mice on it for both computers seeing it's so big.

Prefer soft, currently using crappy "Prey 2" promotional hard mat, sweat on my old one until it died.

Hard, been using a Func 1030 for years (This is actually my second one, first one was adopted by my girlfriend when I'd worn a few places of it quite shiny)

EDIT: after a quick look out of curiosity, they're no longer available it seems :(

Soft pad, although mine is desk size :P Ratscar eSporter XXL

I love the gigantic size because it also then acts as a wrist pad for my Das Keyboard.

My Goliathus is similar like that. I got the Extended version so it acts as a wrist rest of sorts for the keyboard. Also helped my old keyboard to stop moving on my glass desk.
Not sure if my new keyboard would have had the same problem, but meh, I like the mat and still gonna use it :P

Looking at various threads about mouse surfaces today, the Func came up a few times. Not all that many fans, but the people who used them seemed to swear by them.

Interesting, I also have both of them (actually 2 of both) and I definately prefer the Goliathus. I have the large one thats like 500mm X 300mm and the small one thats about 250mm X 150mm (great for the laptop / small desks).

I use the Exactmats on my server / spare games PC with a G9 mouse and its good, but going back to my Goliathus / G500 combo just feels nicer!

I used an eXactmat for a while, hated it. After that i used a Goliathius Control mat which was awesome, but i've worn it out now and just last week i bought myself a Steelseries QcK.

After years of extended use the hard edge of my table has become a beveled edge of comfort :dodgy:

where do i sign up for a 5x3m razer softmatt? :P

Softmat, sliced hand open on hardmatt, after throwing it across the room, then took it out and tried the olde macca's tray under wheels trick, then proceeded without matt for 1-2 years, friend gifted a softmatt, been in love ever since.

hards get shiny, softs, you just wash the buggers = good as new.
