they've been doing this for quite some time.

and the TOR keyboard is not a mech keyboard from all i can gather, from the look of the profile and it's data spec it's most likely a scissor switch keyboard.

i dunno about spending over 200+ bux on a non mech keyboard.

oh I know that, but they're still far from well known to your average user.

that's what I meant, I mean most people don't even know that mechanical keyboards exist or how their current one actually works never mind knowing the brand as well.

ducky dk9008 shine with red backlight.... it's all I've ever wanted..

Ooh... I am very seriously looking at the DA2 BlackWidow Ultimate, but this might just sway me.
Apart from it being 'not Razer', and being available with more variety in switches, can anyone tell me why I should go for this over a Black Widow?

ducky offers some quite extensive array of customized cap for it's keyboard, of various quality (with matching price).

personally though, i just can't stand Blackwidow's design...

either way this old buddy will last me till god knows when...Image

Probably better quality than the razer, not Da2 branded, full n-key rollover if you use the ps2 adapter or 6-key rollover if you use usb, detatchable USB cable, slightly cheaper from mechkeyboards than the razer is from pccg, free postage from mechkeyboards, a few backlight modes on the ducky. What switch does the razer use anyway? Doesn't say on pccg.

Q. What type of mechanical key switch do the Razer BlackWidow mechanical gaming keyboards use?
A. The Razer BlackWidow Stealth edition keyboards use the tactile Cherry MX Brown mechanical key switches, while the Razer BlackWidow keyboards use tactile and clicky Cherry MX Blue mechanical key switches.

I refuse to believe that blacks are good for typing! :P

I'm much more intrigued by blues at the moment... if only these boards weren't $100+ a pop

personally for serious typing i liked brown or blue better than black, but this 7G have the massive palm rest that i really liked so i can overlook it.

The only ones I've tried myself are Blues. I like them, only others I kinda want to try out are Browns, but not sure if I want to risk a $150+ keyboard on a switch I might not like.
Browns are just blues with a different more understated sound yes?

So to summarize using analogies:

A linear switch (eg: Cherry MX Black or Cherry Red) is like a doorbell - smooth travel with no bump
A tactile switch (eg: Cherry MX Brown or Cherry Clear) is like a light switch - halfway through you feel a bump and then the light comes on
A clicky AND tactile switch (eg: Cherry MX Blue or Buckling Spring) is alike a bic pen - clicks AND you feel a bump

i think the gifs illustrate the point better tbh

(the red is essentially a black, they just have different spring strength)

Does anyone have a Ducky Shine? I can only find one review, and that seems to indicate that to turn off the Windows key is to turn over the keyboard and move a tiny little dip switch.

This seems... inconvenient to say the least.

Also, any idea what this 'repeat rate' would do?
