It is now available in stores :icon14:

There are plenty of reasons to get excited, for many it will be the first major update from Microsoft since Windows XP.

The focus of this topic is the discussion of all things relating to the RTM and retail version of Windows 7.

For people that never upgraded to Windows Vista....they are one of those many, if deciding that Windows 7 is suitable.

This. Vista never managed to entice me to move from XP, but i'll cetainly be getting Win7 when it hits local shelves.

Running the RC on both my desktop and lappie, no issues yet. :D

Yes, Windows 7 is totally awesome, very glad with my purchase/subscription.

However SuBw00FeR I'm not really sure if that's allowed how you are legally supposed to use the subscription by sharing it across multiple people. The software is for a single user to download _evaluation_ copies of the microsoft software. (heck, I'd share it around with my friends but I'm wanting to play it straight with MS)

( From http://blogs.technet.com/itproaustralia ... spx#598068 )

Just to make sure I was giving you the right information I forwarded your questions to the Microsoft TechNet Team in the states and their reply is as follows:

1. Can I install the software on 10 machines at home, never remove the software and be in accordance with the EULA, YES/NO? Yes as long as the usage is for “Evaluation”

2. Can the software installed in (Q1) above then be used by any family member on an ongoing basis and be in accordance with the EULA, YES/NO? No its only licensed for the individual subscriber

3. Do I need to maintain an active subscription to continue to use the software, YES/NO? No

4. Will the product keys expire when the Technet subscription expires, YES/NO? No

Here is the link to the EULA: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/aboutt ... terms.mspx

There are several discount codes available at the moment;

TNSCP09N30 = 30% off (may have expired)
TNWIN7RTM = 25% off

I'm been running Windows 7 and I've gotta say, I really like it. Stuff that's in there, you just think... wow, that's a good idea.

Finally a Windows release to be excited about, good work Microsoft - turning around the Vista disaster.

(That said, how many people have used Server 2008 for a desktop OS and how many of those liked it?)

Only thing that irks me is lack of a Quick Launch bar.

Other than that, going great!

I really don't think it's needed, given that you can pin most things you'd have in Quick Launch to the taskbar anyway, then again, I never had more than 3 or 4 things displayed at one time in Quick Launch.

Same, I only pinned 4 things at once. Also, the new taskbar acts more like a quicklaunch bar than a taskbar, when you pin items to it. So that doesn't phase me at all :)

Vista Home Premium

Its the best version of vista outside of the whole shebang that is ultimate.

I think vista was a marketing disaster, and thats half the reason win7 looks so good. Half of the stuff in win7 is in vista anyhow... but yea, it's smoother and easier to use than vista, so its good to see M$'s design evolutions, and thank christ its nothing like the ribbon **** thats in office 2007...

I've decided to completely skip Vista and go directly to Win7 from XP. The reason why I'm so keen to make the move is because I'm scoring a copy for $40 off a friend that works at Microsoft (They get mega deals for friends and family). He says that "It's what Vista *should* have been" and that it's extremely resource friendly.

So hypothetically if someone purchased vista now they'd receive a free upgrade to windows 7 as long as it was a home to home up etc etc?
