I've never had the grip problems. I use my computer on average at least 8 hours a day. Longer on weekends. Maybe I got lucky?

My first G9 i wore the grip out in the first 6 months, reverted to the plastic grip which has been going for over a year now. Just started using my new G9X, see how long it lasts!

Makes me realise I definitely need to get something better than my el cheapo $5 microsoft mouse. Anything mid range people owuld advise or should I just bite it and get a G9? Would that really make such a difference in gaming?

I'm still undecided, I want a wired mouse, with thumb buttons and on the fly sensitivity adjustment too..so many choices.

Being able to change the mouse speed while gaming is very handy with games, as are two side buttons.
Cloth covered cables have less drag resistance than rubber and you barely notice the cable is there.

The G500 is a new version of the G5, and can be had for $49- including postage.
You won't get as good & well featured a mouse at this price ($65- + postage is the next best price for a G500).
It has on the fly sensitivity switching.

One thing with the G5 & G500 that bugs a lot of people is the scroll wheel is not as solid as some other mice,
and the wheel button is not as responsive as some.
I don't use the middle mouse button for critical commands so it does not bother me.
I've had my G5 for three or four years now, just ordered some new feet, but the rest is still good.

The other thing with the G500 is it has three side buttons and they are smaller than the two side buttons on the G5.
I'd probably be inclined to use only the two main side buttons, and disable the third button in the software
(or assign the same command as the front button) to avoid problems with hitting it accidentally.

Still, at $49- dollars the G500 is very good value, and comes with a 3yr warranty.

Upgrading a mouse is about the same difference between playing on a wired lan connection and a wireless network. in this case, expensivo mause is the wired lan, and the el cheapo is the wireless.

Its fine as is, but once you step up you never dream of going back.

Try the microsoft X5 or the razer deathadder along side the G500.

personally i miss my crappy M$ wireless mouse, it was comfy to the extreme, the x8 is good, but there is just something lack luster about it.

im just gonna put my complaining down here

i was an early adopter of the Razor Mamba...i dont remember why, but i just wanted it.

anyway, battery life is awful. i always have it corded, never use it wireless. The scroll wheel is buggered, i scroll once and the sensor picks up like a 2 of 3 scrolls in either direction. This happened like 3 months after i got it.

its not all the comfortable, compared to other mice, even cheaper mice. The dpi buttons are just bad to use, you can never press them easily with out pressing the right click along with it.

it will occasionally disconnect for no reason...might be a driver issue, but its always done it

on a positive note...the packaging was pretty amazing.

anyway... i am now in the market for a new mouse :D

happy with my Tt eSPORTS Black.
It's also cheaper then a lot out there - Except the old MX518 :P

I went from using an MX518 to using the Black, works fine. It glides a bit better imo.

When Logi Australia (e-bay) dropped the G500 from an already low $49 to $42 last week I had to be in it (free postage).

EDIT: After more use - the back side button position take some getting used to as it is possible to hit it accidentally just by rolling my thumb.
[EDIT again - The reason the back side button is easy to hit accidentally is because it sticks out of the mouse body.
The G5 buttons are almost flush with the mouse body. If the button were rounded instead of squared off on the bottom it would have been less of a problem.]
The 'Hyper' scroll option is very good when not playing games, but I forgot to switch to clicky
and did a suicide in BCo2 when I though I was using my repair tool, and ended up with the rocket launcher - herpderp.

EDIT 2: Nope - can't get used to the back side button and it makes lifting the mouse
uncomfortable as you can't grip the mouse naturally (if the G5 is considered natural).
The right click button is too sensitive and often clicks just from the weight of my finger which also make for
an uncomfortable grip from trying to compensate.
The scroll wheel click is not too bad. Not as tight as the G5, but not really a problem.
The freewheel is very handy on the i-net and in some Windows.
Overall, for gaming - Not happy Jan. Looks like I'll have to flog it back on e-bay soon.

I thought I'd killed my Mamba, had left it on the charger over night as usual, picked it up the next day and it was dead - no lights when on the charger, thought it was cactus.

Playing around with it while looking at a new mouse to buy and realized I could actually use it as a wired mouse?! MIND BLOWN.. plugged it in, no joy - installed new firmway, joy! I now have a wired mouse that I actually like, with the cloth cable and it's long as hell too.

Perfect.

Bought a Logitech G400 to replace my G5, very happy with it. It has an identical size/shape and button placement apart from a slightly more sunken mouse wheel and one of the dpi buttons being placed above the wheel now.
It feels to me to be a more precise mouse - all those shots I think I should have made playing FPS's but couldn't quite get my crosshairs in the right spot I'm now making. Mostly. I am a bit ****, but that's not the mouses fault.
