noname, creepy stalker guy

noname, creepy stalker guy

Last night on the games_on_net_battle server we had a griefer we're calling noname, using an exploit where they literally appear with no name (blank) which means you cannot kick-poll or mute them because you cannot click their name in the list. Furthermore whatever symbol they were using for this exploit would crash my warband client if I looked at them directly, when they were on my team. Other players were saying the same thing, or that looking at them directly caused their screen to momentarily go dark.

After I'd suggested it was a pretty crummy thing to be doing they started harassing me, swapping factions any time I did to be on my team, and running around in front of my camera to cause me to crash repeatedly. If you check the logs I kinda lost it at this guy (sorry in advance >.>) However this is when annoying griefer turned into creepy stalker.

He started making suggestions that he knew where I lived, then started disclosing personal information about me, first my state, then town, then full address and phone number, telling people to come and visit me etc. I'm guessing he googled my nick, found my vanity domain and did a whois lookup (thankfully I've recently moved house and the info in whois is out of date). That aside, this was some pretty messed up behaviour, and I'm not entirely sure how to proceed, I've been playing WB on the GON server for well over a year now and its one of my favourite games but if people are going to be like this then I need to think about my safety and the safety of my family first.

I'm not really sure what to suggest other than perhaps some of the more senior, sensible regular players could be promoted to admin so they can jump on this kind of thing sooner?

Kind regards,

Pomke

You can always fill out a TMR at http://games.on.net/contact/ to report any issues, preferably with some evidence (though I don't know how you can record that in Warband).

If this happens again, you can attempt to contact an admin on the IRC channel (#gamesonnet, located on irc.gamesurge.net) directly by using the !admin command.

As Ginji already stated if you submit a TMR an admin will be able to look into this as the servers will log all connections/player names. If you can give a rough time/date that will also assist them in locating this info. You have probably noticed by now I am no longer an admin so I will not be able to assist anymore.

I am not sure what it is you actually want GON to do about this though. If all that information was freely available to anyone who simply did what you guessed then GON are going to be powerless to do anything. GON cannot control some of the tarts that are out there, sure we can ban them but only after they have done something which is against the rules. What should you do now? I would start by removing what ever detail you can from the internet or by using another player name in game would be a start.

And welcome to one of my many issues while looking after Warband. To be honest the WB community has to be one of the childish I have ever dealt with. Given it is so small and most of the players seem to know/troll each other its extremely difficult to even work out these "sensible" players (if there is such a thing in WB). After taking on the last admin the amount of different people that were unhappy I didn't select this person or I took someone that was in this clan was ridiculous.

Thankfully that decision no longer one I have to make ;)

In saying all that I will be forwarding the above issue onto Omni who has taken up my role and will have access to the server logs and can look into this for you.
