Here are my considered responses to dojo_eddison's complaints, I'm not affiliated with GON or KoS in any way and my opinions are my own, I welcome dojo_eddison to respond.
1) The new items do not have new stats, therefore change nothing and are pointless.
As a female player of warband I found the single player campaign's treatment of women to be fairly reasonable (without breaking the medieval feel), it is one of the things that attracted me to the game, and then on to multiplayer (I've never really gone in for this kind of pvp/3ps/whatever it is kind of game before but warband is something different.) I especially liked that women were not subjected to 'chainmail bikini syndrome' at all and had practical armour.
At the lower end of the armour scale in the single player there were some nice medieval dresses, and I asked Laszlo recently if there was any way they could be accessible within the multiplayer game as the male equivalent are the only options by default. Laszlo has very kindly come up with a way to make more of the items from the single player game available on Naitive, and I can attest that this simple change has had a real practical effect on the game of making women feel more welcome and considered.
Sure these items are 'flavour' but they are far from pointless, I point to the fact that the server had 25+ players online solidly from 7-midnight without the usual drop-outs to siege or duel servers, and despite the constant ongoing argument from dojo_eddison and others.
2) Having more items is confusing for new and old players, who have to 'learn' what they do.
Really? As I was trying to say last night if someone is wearing a dress or plate, how does this change your strategy at all? you still have to successfully hit them until they die right? So even if a new bit of clothing did confuse you, what would it change? I also think that the new armour is fairly obvious, heavy armour is the shiny metal stuff with chain everywhere, a dress is obviously not much defence at all, I figured it out in under.. no wait it didn't take any time at all to figure it out, its plain obvious.
3) transphobia about the guys who were wearing dresses (and because of how the game was designed, also had female bodies with male heads). Some points about how this ruins the immersion of the game.
I thought this argument was very immature, the cries of 'trannys are ruining the game' were pretty disgusting and I think says alot about some people's own insecurities TBH. That said I do think putting a male sized head on a female body shape does look pretty silly (the immersion argument), and while I doubt this will go on for long (the novelty will wear off and people will go back to having better armour) I guess Laszlo could detect character's gender and not offer outfits that don't have male/female models to go with the textures, but as I said I think the novelty will wear off in a day or two.
4) The mod was not put to a poll by the community for voting and therefore it's addition is invalid.
Management of the GON warband servers is not some kind of democracy, no one is taking away your 'rights' (you have none btw in this context) and I'd point out that the new maps were introduced without a vote and most people love them.
As Laszlo said repeatedly, the community will judge, if having some neat new outfits is really ruining the game for you, don't play on the server (there are others in AU) and if enough people do this Laszlo will remove the mod. Vote with your feet!
