I think they're mostly plastic now?

Some models used to be metal. They switched all of them over to resin earlier this year. Different kind of resin to the stuff Forgeworld uses, but still resin.

Not sure on 40k but I know fantasy were still having some unique models as metal. Think they are pewter not lead though...

I will have to find my fantasy models and get some pictures up here now

Dumbed down. It's now pretty much BFG but on water.

Yeah, it's called "Dreadfleet" now. Some cool models! But not really my thing.

Anybody else seen the new Necrons yet? Thoughts?

Or BFG is Dreadfleet... IN SPACE.

I just googled the new necrons. I can't tell the difference between them and the old ones, except the new ones have bigger guns.

The new ones are more wacky and Egyptian-themed. Here's a roundup of them all!

They've got personalities now and other such nonsense. Before that, it was just "relentless space robots" and now it's "wacky egyptian space robots". Which is, you know, cool.

Personalities somewhat ruin all the previous lore for Necrons, that seems a little fail.

Kindof inspired to start my IG again after playing the Death Korps of Krieg DLC for DoW2.

Only problem... I'm not a huge fan of the game mechanics. Fantasy is a lot better... 40K always seemed like a big clusterfight.

Shoot shoot... everyone piles into melee... game ends.

Only problem with Fantasy is my preferred army gets the song Dr Jones into my head.

When was the last time you played?

Mechanics have been tweaked significantly in the last two editions so that shooting and melee are much more balanced. Shooting especially has been made significantly more powerful, as have the IG whose new order system has given them a lot of flexibility.

There's also a bigger emphasis than before on movement and placement, thanks to true LOS rules.

Years ago... I've not yet played with the 'new' IG.

The last thing I remember was Pete Haines crapping on about doctrines and 'combat engineers' in third edition.

That was two editions ago!

If you lived anywhere near me I'd say come over and play some test games, but for reals, the mechanics are much more flexible and tactical now.

Maybe head along to some local gaming nights and see if you can sit in?

That's one reason I've fallen out of favour with the hobby.

I loved the old Mike Walker articles in White Dwarf about games at friends' houses, but I don't really fit in at tournaments with players I don't know, or stores with mostly people half my age.

I'd play it if I had friends to play privately with.

I agree... I used to play with my 2 brothers, then I moved town and don't like the local bendigo gaming group, so haven't touched my models in a couple of years..

Those old Mike Walker articles were indeed the ****, I used to follow them enthusiastically (and subscribe to White Dwarf enthusiastically... back in the day, anyway).

I'm much the same. I only play with friends and friends-of-friends, never at gaming nights or tournaments.

I was more thinking it might be a good way to get a feel for the new rules and see whether or not you think it'd be something you'd be interested in :) Chances are you have a local gaming club full of old vets who would welcome a sit in.
