GON FSX Server - yes we have one at GON

When: Any night 8pm Easterm or post a request
Server: fsx-1.games.on.net:23456 (FSHost)
Planes: Cessnas or PC-9s or post your preference
Where to: Launceston to Hobart Scenic Route. Download the flight plans for FSX or Plan-G or plain-ol printed version
Flight style: Free flight, just a bit of muck around - anything goes. If this is your first time come on down you are more than welcome.
Teamspeak: tms-1.games.on.net: 9987 channel: GON Flight Lounge password: smis
just add the channel to your bookmark for direct access.

Over the next coming weeks I thought it would be good if we could get some social multiplayer sessions going. So far there are a few of us all enjoying FSX however as far as I know it's all be on our lonesome :(

What I am proposing that this Sunday we try and organise a social flight. If it's successful we can look at implementing a more regular thingo.

Here are my thoughts - feel free to chime in if you have ideas!

When? - Sunday - time TBD. I would personally like it to be around 6pm (WA)
Where? - Launceston to Hobart scenic route. The idea is that then people can use the FTX scenery demo and it will look nice :D

I will create a flight plan in PLan-G and load it to my drop box. I'll put a link here when its done. There will be a Plan-G version and FSX version.

Aircraft? - take your pick? However I'd suggest slow GA planes such as Cessnas or Maules. I love that PC9 so maybe that?

Server? - There is a GON server :D . Details on how to use FS host are in the 'Going Hardcore' section of my guide.

I will set up some local hops for this week also.

Guys if you are playing FSX during this week, have a look for the server and try and get on it.

I think thats it :D - post up with your ideas and suggestions!

Depending on the baby's feeding schedule I'd love to be there (what does that time equal on the eastern seaboard).

Would suggest we use one of GoN's teamspeak channels as well.

Any chance you could be on that channel half an hour beforehand Moose in-case people need help getting set-up?

Great idea, thanks for taking the time to organise it :)

Yeah you can request one by lodging a support request (top of page under TOOLS).

One of our TS3 guys will pick it up and get back to you.

Maybe check TS3 GoN first for a 'simulations' public channel. If that isn't there, go ahead and request it (we could use it for the racers as well).

ok i've done that.

I'll mention that i named it GON server just so it's easy to find. If any admins or what not want the name changed because its not officially endorsed I'm happy to.

good move setting up a server v4moose would be good to get some mp flying going.
I'll try get on tonight and give that pc9 a fly. do you still need a gamespy account to use mp ?

and a ts3 channel would also be good, usually you need to be a node customer to request one and if your not one of us admins should be able to organise one.

cheers :)

Somehow I missed this thread yesterday. Yes to all the above!

I'll likely stick with the Cessna for now, as a newb it is what I am most comfortable with.

yes the beechcraft 58 is a great plane I've flown that a few times, never flown the king air though I'd imagine, given it's size, that it would be less responsive that the 58.
and I had a look at the pc9 manual over breakfast and it does have some nice performance specifications, great climb rate at over 4kft/s similar performance to a late model spitfire and it's a very detailed manual; should be great to fly.

cheers :)

it's not that much larger, it has turbo props so it's got a lot more power in it. i find it a bit too responsive sometimes but i'm just used to heavy airliners

We could always do like an Air Force One-style flight? Like a couple of F/A-18's escorting a 747 or something? I think that would be pretty cool to do..

bit of an update on the server folks. I've found that having the server just idle is causing my internet to do all kinds of crazy things. even with no players on my web browsing speed drops to a snails pace. Its also causing my whole network to crash periodically, and I have no idea why. Currently power cycling the router and the network card is the only thing that will fix it.

I've contacted a hosting company who do FSHost rentals to see about renting one. At this point - I don't know if GON would be willing to help host....? Is that even possible?

I could try hosting it? Just setup a new server so I'll see what I can pull together.

I'll send Hydra a pm; is there any more info needed to set one up than what you posted in the other thread?

cheers :)
