VEOA at DCS

Unread postby brimlad » 12 Jun 12, 11:42 am

The latest 3rd party developer to join DCS are Virtual European Air Operations and the planes they intend to develop for DCS world are the BAE Hawk T.1A trainer and the Eurofighter Typhoon.
Additionally they will be developing a series of missions/campaigns for the Air Combat Training School which follows closely the training program for RAF pilots.
Ells228 wrote:We are looking to set up the ACTS along with development of the Hawk and Typhoon and integrate missions, training and campaigns within the modules to reflect ACTS.
Documentation, reference material and videos etc will be produced to aid and assist in the training.

VEAO have been involved with ED for some 7 years and have developed the above mentioned planes for FC2. The Hawk will be the first plane and is nearing completion. The Typhoon is a big project and will take some time to complete. ACTS will be developed along side both planes and we should see its intergration into DCS world with the Hawk.
So if you think you can/could have cut it as a jet pilot you soon will have the chance to try; great development for DCS.

any idea on the ETA for these external devs are Brim? I wonder if we are talking long term or expected to be released this year.

I wonder if companies such as IRIS are building planes from scratch (which could take 18months) or converting existing IP over from fsx/prepar3d?

short answer when there done, that's the ED punch line.

for IRIS the tomcat will be the first and possibly this year; their f15e will be a dcs branded product and it's a big project and will probably take a 2-3 years to complete; the raptor somewhere in between. IRIS have done a few planes for fsx but I'm not sure if they have ever modelled these before.

for VEAO the Hawk will be first and again possibly this year but the typhoon next year; ATCS will be released in stages and the first module will be along side the Hawk. Both these planes were developed by VEAO for FC2 they just need to add considerably more detail to bring them up to DCS world standard.

Beczl's fishbed is due this year and will probably be the first 3rd party plane to leave the hanger.

DCS combined arms beta will out in a couple of weeks and more 3rd party developers are likely to emerge in the coming months.

edit: had a look at the iris site today and they have done those planes for fsx, though it would be a complete rebuild for dcs at least they detailed understanding of those planes.

cheers :)

cabin pic of the DCS: Hawk; the plane is progressing nicely and could well be the first 3rd party plane to leave the hanger

looks like its coming aling nicely. I wonder what the prices will end up being for these external planes, and I wonder if they will come with their own mission and campaign.

I hope they wont be the normal $40 that DCS charge as there's a few aircraft now I have my eye on :)

I'd guess some where between 20usd and 50usd; the trainers might be cheaper given they have less complex weapons systems but I'm guessing. It will be a matter of choosing what planes you want to spend the time learning as the full hanger would be expensive and almost impossible to devote the needed time to fly them well. Choosing planes that have similar weapons system can also assist as they tend to be the most time consuming part of the learning proccess.

Beclz's fishbed is currently up for pre order for 20usd (or what you care to donate) via indiegogo as he's trying to raise cash to get professional sound work and texturing. I paid the 20usd yesterday and that gets you the digital copy when ready and I'd expect that the final price will be higher so looks a good bargin atm; it will probably be my only russian plane unless someone builds a dcs mig 25 which I do like.

I imagine I'll be doing lots of this in the fishbed
