Flight Simulator X flight controller

Unread postby cyclobs » 11 Nov 10, 11:38 pm

hey guys,

recently gotten back into FSX again, really enjoying it :D but unfortunately my old joystick doesn't do the job any more :(

so i'm looking to upgrade to the more professional style controllers. any other pilots here have any controllers they can recommend. Not sure if i should look into getting the whole lot (throttle quadrant, flight stick, rudder / breaks) or just the flight stick but i'm certainly looking to go all out (except instruments and what not. not really interested in going that far yet)

thanks guys :D

mate, if you REALLY want to get into it, you will need the following:

1. Yoke (eg. CH Pro)
2. Rudder pedals (eg. CH Pro or Saitek)
3. Track IR 4 or 5
4. Multi throttle quadrant (Ch Pro).

I've gone CH Pro coz thats what I have and it works great. Saitek also produce them I believe.

Best thing to do is buy it from Amazon.com - you can get the yoke/rudder/throttle for about USD $280 or something (the AUD/USD exch rate is still pretty good) and then ship them to Aust using Hopshopgo.com. Thats what I did for the CH Pro throttles - cost me AUD$130 all up (incl hopshop postage) compared to AUD$350 if you want to buy it from aussie retailers (hell no).

Hopshopgo is pretty good - Amazon doesn't ship outside the US, so hopshop act as the middle man and you pay them for postage.

All the best.

ps. don't forget to sign up for VATSIM - ie. the ability to fly online using real air traffic control (other players). its the best you can get other than flying a real place (and cheaper).

I got the Saitek x52Pro, it does the job. You can buy rudder pedals for it, but I prefer the twist stick. I think I paid a bit over $200 for it. Unfortunately I haven't used it for quite some time as my gfx card died, but I'll soon have a new one and I'll get back into it :).

after looking at it for a while, decided on going with total saitek stuff

2 throt quads (for dual prop engines as well and quad engine aircraft) - 3 axies each)
pro flight rudder pedals.
saitek yoke.

the whole package cost around $500

Hey i have many hundreds of hours on VATSIM/ VATPAC network. If your like me and want to fly the real thing have a look at this! keep in mnd you will prob need to take out a small personal loan!! around $15,000AUD.

PS if you not done so already go out and buy well online! PMDG 737NG and use Trakir its the best!!

If you're serious about flight sims you should spend less on the hardware and buy TrackIR v5.0. No peripheral does more for immersion than this and once you try it you'll wonder how you ever went without it.

I'd hand over my Warthog before my trackIR.

Just did some quick youtubing to see this thing in action. I'm assuming it's not a 1:1 ratio, otherwise to look out the left or right side of the aircraft you'd have to look away from the monitor. With that in mind is it still intuitive. I'm assuming it would take some getting used to.

Very intuitive to use, you get used to it very quickly. Looking behind you is just a 45 degree tilt but that ratio is changeable.
