Rise of Flight

Unread postby Ball0fire » 26 Feb 10, 9:53 pm

So i found this sim a few weeks ago

wow
http://riseofflight.com/en
WW1 flight sim

comes with a few flyable planes, with other flyable planes paid downloads
its not that bad. why? cos the price isnt that bad, i bought the full game plus 1 plane pack(2 planes 1 allied 1 axis) and cost me aboot $50

really loving it
there is a demo you can get from the GON mirror, the main gripe with the demo is its time limited to 72 hours from the time you install / register online

thers a bunch of other videos showing gameplay and physx demos

not sure aboot multiplayer yet havnt tried it tho i hear that isnt very well implemented
or i think it may just be whiners complaining that the german planes arent as good as the allied planes :)

anyhoo , thought id just like to make a little thread in the new sims section ( i think its the first one)

The first five seconds of that first video show...

"hundreds of thousands kilometers covered by the world war"

wat.

Is it properly sim-like? Love FSX, don't like plane-games.

oh yeah its proper sim
mixture control, radiator vent controls
loading weapons
trackIR 6DOF support
fire both MG's at once or seperate, guns jams, engines stutter in negative G moves
they even valve bounce and cough n splutter when over revved,

being ww1 planes they are incredibly simple machines, but some of them are very hard to fly, cept for the albatros, that thing just does what you want it to, yah dont have to fight it every time you wanna make a course correction like the others
doesnt kick you around when you stall, just drops a wing you pick up speed and try again . ive got more kills in the albatros than all the other planes combined
plus its got the cool exposed cam / rocker arms and valve springs happenin and can watch them bob up n down :)

new patch added a few more effects HDR, i think its too much tho darks get very dark bloom and other effects grass has been updated its nice now :) bunch of other fixes and additions listed here
http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=7737

i doo like the qwick missions easy to set up a mission type, friendly and enemy types numbers formation altitude distance skins ammo and away you go :)

just did one before me and 2 wingmen in camels vs 3 Fokker DR1's and 2 fokker VII's
i shot one down and then ther was a huge collision with deris and the plane going down and i think both my wingmen and and 3 enemy planes went down as well
leaving just me and a single Fokker which i finally shot up his engine and made him land. (i'll have to check the flight recod to see what actually happend) was cool tho

Image
have to adjust the HDR / gamma settings its still a bit too dark

so Rise of flight is being released to DVD for retail , not sure if its coming to Australia, but one would assume so.

there is also new patches and even better so is a new updated Demo

A lot of users, participated in our survey, noted that the current release of demo-version is incapable to reveal all game’s potential and options.

So, along with 1.013 update the new demo-version will be released.

The Rise Of Flight Demo will include:

* Two aircraft - Spad XIII and Albatros D.Va
* Two single missions, one per aircraft
* The full access to 2 multiplayer modes during all demo validity period
* The demo validity period will be extended up to 14 days

14 days is much better than the 72 hours of current demo length

when the new demo is released i ( or someone else) will request to get the file hosted on GoN cos the file size is a couple gig

if you like flight sims i highly recommend trying this when the new demo is released if you havnt tried already

Your best bet is to just hit the online mode of the game, and meet up with some folks there.

Thanks I'll check it out.
After ordering it on the 6th of August it finally arrived 2 days ago. About time I think.
Oh well at least it's here now.

Haven't tried out the online portion of the game yet, still trying to learn to fly the old planes properly.

******************Necro******************

Grabbed the standard version off their site for about $50. With IL2 Cliffs of Dover coming up I had a hankering for a decent war-sim. I have and enjoy wings of prey but it's way too arcadey (and the original IL-2 looks like shite).

Absolutely loving the necessity of using my top hat-switch to look around the plane. There's little more important than keep your eye on the enemy while you try and get onto his six. The mechanics of it are really well done, I do get the feeling this is what those birds would be like to fly.

By god the difficulty is punishing. Played the same scenario about three times before I managed to take out a single enemy. The tutorials are decent but ramp up in difficulty pretty quickly from stage 5 onwards (30 degree flat-run at a vehicle convoy).

Anyone else playing? A dogfight would be good fun.

Some of you bf2 players may remember +SiN+ JarikRanger (formerly of =NrD=), he's now known as Requiem10NS. Based in the US, Requiem does a truly incredibly job of churning out instructional videos using Rise of Flight. The techniques he teaches here work across a range of flight-sims.

Check out his channel, but here's some of my favourites...

My turn to necro this... Just grabbed this off the node files and registered the free-to-play side of it, and wow it looks and runs sweet. Haven't pulled out my stick yet, just let the plane drift through the sky using keys to check it out, but this might grab my attention for awhile as my PC really needs some upgrades for DCS World (holy mother of load times that is!)

Don't really want to go unpacking things to find my stick, but really want to give this a proper go.
