DCS: P-51D & DCS World

Unread postby brimlad » 23 Jan 12, 9:43 am

There has been much speculation as to which plane DCS were to tackle next and great to finally know that we get the very sexy P-51D; was one of my favorite planes to fly in CFS2 & 3 and DCS should delivery a very polished product later in 2012.

more details and pics at DCS:

cheers :)

Saw this a couple of days ago too. Looks like they already had it mostly developed as an early internal demo for DCS. Don't mean to be a fanboy, but I'll buy anything ED releases, even if I'd rather a Su-27! :D

DCS have also released DCS World:
ED wrote:DCS World is a single, unified core for all DCS products to operate within. Rather than separate installations for each DCS products, the single DCS world interface allows the user to access all of their DCS products in a common user interface. DCS world also includes a DCS News service and will allow users to purchase DCS titles through the interface at a later point.

DCS World will be updated as DCS evolves with changes to the rendering system, AI units, AI logics, effects, etc. All aspect of the simulation, outside the flyable aircraft, add-on maps, and other paid-for content.

DCS World is free and comes with a free flyable aircraft, the Su-25T, and is part of the P-51D download.
The current DCS World is still in beta and will evolve over time with new features.

The next patch for BS2 and A-10c will intergrate those titles into DCS World; further details at ED:
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87429

The DCS World and P-51D files are now available here at GON:
http://games.on.net/filelist.php?app=8849&menu=16

DCS World needs to be installed first and then run P-51D exe if you have purchased the pre-order.
DCS world will allow you to fly the Su-25T in single player but you will need a valid key for MP.

cheers :)

New Beta/pre-purchase client now on the gon mirror (1.1.2.1).

The files have been split into DCS World and P-51D but you do need both if you purchase a P-51D key.

i must say I've been very impressed with the dynamics of the su-25. being my first entry into a dcs title, and without any training missions I'm completely lost. but still good fun.

so the P-51D is available to prepurchase, can't wait to see what else they add to the sim before final release

Fly online with other DCS aircraft like the Black Shark and the A-10C Warthog...

yes.... :D

so I caved over the weekend and bought it, not a big deal.

played the beta for about 5 hours I reckon.

WOW, all I can say. even in beta this is an amazingly fun title.

i spent the first hour or so going through all the tutorials, which are really well done IMO. **** pit familiarisation, takeoff, landing, navigation, gun battles, all good fun.

took about 4 tries before I got the bird on the ground safely, first 2 times i crushed the undercarriage, then i got it on the ground, hit the brakes and front flipped. 4th time i bounced but lived to tell the tale.

been working up my way through the campaign missions. actual fighting in this aircraft is dam hard. I'm stuck on a mission where you have to strafe a moving convey with anti aircraft guns chilling around. either i get shot down or run out of ammo before sploding all the trucks.

can't wait for the full release - going on line will be awesome. I only wish crossfire was supported, it took me 45minutes to realise why I could only get 17fps... then i disabled crossfire and it jumped up to 50.

glad your enjoying it, the beta is very good with very few bugs though the final product will look much better.

you did better than me, I destroyed about 15 planes before I managed a half decent landing; the plane is very front heavy especially with tanks nearly empty so you do need to be very gentle with the brakes, and that's why the gear is pitched at such a high angle.

drop in on the convoy from decent height and use your vertical drop speed and angle to evade the guns and never fly straight especially when exiting and save your rounds with burst fire and you do need to get close.

yes no profile for either brand of card hopefully one day but you shouldn't see a drop in rates with 2 cards; if you haven't got 12.6 installed then you should or at least install cap 12.6.
the sim is more cpu intensive than gpu so the best to have a quad above 3ghz, best around 3.6 or more.

and we'll have get on a server and test our fighting skills and the ai are pretty good in the beta so it does give you good practice.

cheers :)
