VRS tacpak

TacPac is now available for pre purchase... and what is it ?

VRS wrote:The VRS TacPack is the first true single and multi-player combat simulatation modification for FSX.
In 2010, Vertical Reality Simulation's SuperbugX brought the first true fly-by wire combat aircraft to Flight Simulator X, along with a massive list of never-before seen innovations including true avionic and animated weapons modeling with sophisticated and highly integrated fire control and radar suites. The only problem was that weapons couldn't actually destroy anything in the world. We could simulate their destruction by having avionics such as radar ignore them when the hit occurred, but they would always keep flying. The TacPack will change everything you thought you knew about what was possible in Flight Simulator.

From what I have read it won't be quite at the high fidelity of the DCS series but it will be close and for those fsx owners it will give you a taste of jet combat on a global scale.

looks very interesting but I think it might struggle to compete with the DCS series. I think most people who fly FSX these days are more interested in GA/Airline flying rather than simulated combat. Happy to be proven otherwise though. :D

This difference is the scale of fsx and the quality of the terrain; DCS is limited to a region and while large, tacpak can be deployed on a global scale and should be compatible with mesh and weather upgrades and while the vrs superbug isn't high fidelity (FC2 quality) the carrier ops will be worth the investment.
When I get them both installed I'll demonstrate what tacpac can deliver.
DCS are planning a mesh upgrade with their new EDGE engine but that could be many months away.

cheers :)

Has EDGE already been implemented for P-51? I'm looking for information about it but not finding much at the moment, I understand its a terrain engine, but I'm usure how it will impact other areas of the game, ie flight dynamics, weather, FPS etc...

Also Brim do you know whether DCS has DX11 support yet?

no EDGE is still months away and will be released via DCS World; it will be dx11 and much higher res than we have atm. You should download DCS World and try the su-25t and have a look around the current world, it's free.

I think I preordered tacpak many moons ago when I was briefly into Superbug.

Problem was, A10 came out just after I bought Superbug, and there really was no comparison.

I tried DCS world beta, really before I got so hooked on FSX...it ran badly on my PC (as it seems most sims do until you tweak it abit)... unfortunately I uninstalled it to make some space on the SSD for prepared

I think I should re-install and give it another go now though.

oh yeah I remember why I uninstalled it - I didnt' have a clue what was going on. One mission was telling me to follow my buddy on his six, but then he proceeded to fly directly into the ocean....

wow, there's so much rage on the VRS forums because the devs won't give a definite release date. They won't go further than 'when it's done'

Theres people who pre-purchased it 9 months ago and have had to patiently wait it out...

considering its closed beta now, then maybe a 1 month open beta. Surely it can't be more than 3 months away...

that's a tad rough paying and not getting access to a beta especially after such a long time; difficult project by the looks of it and the way DCS is progressing they may well lose customers.

cheers :)

No, I'm pretty much a X-planeX convert, 64bit version rocks; I didn't even bother to installing fsx after the last reinstall. reminds me to post up some more xplaneX screenie goodness and will do in the next few days. and then there's DCS :D

I haven't got back to reinstalling FSX since my PC troubles last year ..now I have a fresh hard drive in I should, but then again I have DCS World with the A10 to tackle yet, and War Thunder for casual flight, and Black Shark for chopper stuff and well, would I even end up playing FSX again? This sounds rather neat though, and can see Brim's point with the global scale making it something special in its own way.

..but the way I am going I haven't even managed to put time into any flight stuff recently, so why am I even thinking about this  My eyes are bigger than my belly is

fsx is still a good sim but you do have spend some money on plugin's to make it look and fly as good as xplanex; be good to hear from anybody that has tried vrstacpac, did seem a good idea.
