just for everyone's reference, the part of reddit involved in this was the subreddit SRS (ShitRedditSays). it's a small subreddit of about 15,000 subscribers (compared to 1.5million for a popular subreddit, AskReddit), so you shouldn't think everyone on reddit is like that. not only is it a small part, it has some pretty unique people in there. this is what some people said about it when I asked what it's about.
It's supposed to be a place to point out how racist/sexist/homophobic reddit is. They link upvoted comments and posts that are usually fairly awful, and talk about how bad the posts and the posters are. They actually encourage upvoting the offending posts in order to highlight how terrible they think reddit is. It's also fairly circlejerky, with comment images involving raining purple dildos and silly user flair.
Their official rule is that they are not a downvote brigade. However it is far from coincidental that a lot of posts that get linked there are soon the recipient of a lot of downvotes. If you post a dissenting opinion on their subreddit the mods will immediately ban you. Their "Values" are to call out reddit on the racist, homophobic, anti feminist things that people post. Keep in mind that a lot of the times these kinds of things are posted they are in joke format. In short they are white knights gone of the deep end. They cant take a joke, or a different opinion. They try to censor everyone else
