My parents used to own a Chinese restaurant and there were occasions where they hired students from mainland China. My dad had to occasionally remind one or two staff not to squat on top of the toilet, cause they were leaving shoe prints on the seat. Obviously the squatting thing is a cultural issue as flushing toilets aren't common in some countries. When travelling overseas I've yet to take the option of choosing the squatting toilet

But washing your hands should be goddamn compulsory. I've seen people from all cultures not wash their hands in the mens room. I dare anyone who doesn't wash their hands to tell their friends, see what kind of reaction you get. Mind you, at least we have toilet paper. Some places don't even have that and people just use a particular hand. What was it, never shake the left hand because that's the dirty hand?

I don't wash my hands after going to the toilet, none of my family does, and only a few of my friends actually do, and they're aware that they are the minority. So.. there you go

If we ever meet at a GON event, please don't be offended when I refuse to shake your hand ;)

And this just cements a common view that you're crazy, in the nicest possible way of putting it.

Meh, if thats the worst people think of me I'm doing pretty well

Seriously though, I only know a few people that do wash their hands after going to the toilet, and I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that don't. We should have a poll!

Given that you and your entire family don't wash their hands, I'd say your social network has gravitated towards the 'non-hand wash' group. Wouldn't surprise me if your hand - washing friends have gradually distanced themselves ;)

Well weird as it may be i agree with you.
Just look at the amount of food allergies in western ( clean and sterile nazi countries) vs 3rd world places .

Hint they damn well nearly don't exist.

Morale get dirty and get exposed and maybe the next killer bacteria wont roll you for six.

well personally I think there's a pretty thick line between exposing yourself to bacteria and licking **** off your fingers so if its all the same to you I think I'll continue to wash my hands

Strictly from a health point of view, hygiene issues aside, squatting is meant to be much better for your bowel than sitting. From what I've read it is supposed to make defecating easier and more complete, and is meant to cause less instances of bowel cancers than the western method, due to reduced faecal stagnation.

Obviously our toilets are not set up for squatting but from what I've read it would be beneficial to have a portable step to go along with our toilets so you can sit with your legs in a raised position.

And look at the life expectancy/debilitating diseases in 3rd world countries. I know which situation I'd prefer to be in.

I'm absolutely blown away by how many filthy animals frequent these forums. Washing your hands is basic hygiene - the Muslims worked that out a couple of thousand years ago (hence the ablution ritual before praying).

And I'm surprised at how many anal people there are here, the majority of people I've met and known throughout my life do not wash their hands after using the loo, unless they've had an accident.

You'll just have to live somehow knowing us filthy animals are out there Mekon

I'd say that says less about greater social mores, and more about the class of person you mix with, TBH.

Pretty much everyone I've ever known (having lived in more than a few parts of the world, including North Africa - although the Bedouin were a different kettle of fish) find the idea of not washing your hands after using the bathroom, particularly public restrooms, quite repugnant. Sinks are an invariable constant in restrooms for a reason - they aren't decoration.

I heard this when I watched Kenny's World, so obviously I had to try it. Truth be told it actually did make a difference, I think it helped quite a bit. But after so many years of doing it sitting down I didn't bother doing it again.

Also, for the sake of the topic ... I wash my hands.
