True but he's elected to put the country first, not to automatically just favour the corporations.

Corporations are the country, so therfore he does put the countries best interest at the front.

little bit of an update on the primaries. only 4 candidates left (as of 26th jan). Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry and Jon Hunstman, are all out. Sarah Palin, and Donald Trump pretended to run for publicity, and Herman Cain dropped out after a bunch of scandals (and promptly screwing himself over with talking about it).

Newt Gingrich
States won: 1
Projected Delegates: 28

the current leader. the guy who campaigns for family values and to preserve the sanctity of marriage the guy who divorced his first wife shortly after she was diagnosed with cancer. the guy who asked his recently MS diagnosed wife for an open marriage and then divorced her after her obvious answer.

Mitt Romney
States won: 1
Projected Delegates: 14

the one who everyone thinks will win. the guy that everyone wants to not vote for. the guy who pays an approximately 13.9% tax on his $46million income (over two years), but will never consider raising tax on non-wage income sources and would rather raise taxes on the poor. the Mormon guy. the guy with the face fit to be President. the guy that was Governor of the state that the federal government based their public health plan on. the guy that will say **** anything that he thinks his current audience will like.

Ron Paul
States won: 0
Projected Delegates: 10

the libertarian. the guy who thinks the federal government should be small and everything should be at the state level. the guy who has some crazy views because of the previous fact. the guy who has an incredibly vocal and loyal (mainly internet-based) following. the guy that the media actively ignores. the guy who would veto a large majority of legislation coming from the house/senate if he won (assuming he stayed consistent).

Rick Santorum
States won: 1
Projected Delegates: 8

ah Rick Santorum. I honestly don't know much about this guy. he hates gays, abortions (thinks pregnancy from rape should be treated as a gift in disguise), and won't **** win.

Thanks for the update Skitzor. It really does look like a two-horse race between Romney and Gingrich, though his overwhelming win in Florida seems to make him a front-runner.

On one hand I think it's great to have the primaries drawn out, thus seeing more dirt slung around, but the amount of money going into these campaigns is obscene.

My favourite part of the election so far is when Newt Gingrich promised a base on the moon.
Even though it's certainly plausible it just sounds so much like the perfect stereotypical politician's pledge - that they never intend to fulfill.

Yea Gingrich would be breaking the Outer Space and Moon Treaty by putting a base on the moon. It won't happen, he is full of it like most of them.

yeah, I think the aftermath is going to be interesting. I remember the 08 democratic primaries, and after Obama won out over Clinton, they had to remind Clinton supporters to still vote for Obama as there was a little bit of competition between the two. but in these primaries, both Romney and Gingrich have been getting extremely personal about each other. it will be interesting if it gets to the point where the non-winners supporters would rather vote for Obama.

that was even more hilarious because in the past Gingrich has had a go at Obama (and his government) for talking big and not delivering.

Forget the Moon Base thing... he was claiming regular flights to Mars by 2020. We don't have the technology, and even NASA believes that one country alone wouldn't have the funds to put that kind of endeavour together.

He got a bit carried away trying to appeal to the Floridans (with their heavy NASA employment) and just started dribbling ****. :)

Certainly the competition between Hillary and Obama never got as acrimonious as the Romney V Gingrich race appears to have been. I think another real danger is that those who backed the losing candidate may simply stay home on election day. There's also the risk that the winner could alienate those who would ordinarily be volunteering for campaigns and raising funds etc. If Romney wins the nomination (as seems likely) I think any lack of support from the base could kill him, especially because most of the grassroots activity on the Republican side of the field in recent history has been centred around the tea party, and Romney is way too moderate for their tastes.

Yeah, but if there's one thing the Tea Party hates more than Romney's moderate stance is Obama's "communist" policies. I'm sure they'll rally around Romney if not for getting Obama out of the White House.

I could see a lot of hay being made out of associating Romney with the same policies, stuff like the socalled Obamacare legislation allegedly being based upon legislation that Romey supported in his home state could kill tea party support, or at least prevent it from being enthusiastic.

The US didn't ratify the moon treaty so how are they breaking it? Every space-faring country have neglected to ratify it and the only one of those to sign it (but not ratify) is India.

he may have won states, but it didn't earn him many delegates.

I really don't see him winning. maybe there's a bit more attention on him his problems will come out. this guy is ridiculously socially conservative and has been called the most corrupt politician by a few different organisations.
