Oh god, I don't care anymore....

You found a hypothetical point I brought up and you assumed that conditioning explicitly means that our government is evil blah blah brainwashing blah. Government conditioning can and does happen, just as kremmen's point about conditioning is valid. At no point did I say you, the Armed forces, AFD of what ever the hell you call yourselves are evil. I was merely bringing up a point of view in a discussion. (I believe the point was about education, and one of you smart cookies thought that education was sending a letter to North Korea)

This has clearly not happened. You (All 3 of you) have been firmly arguing your point about god knows what to **** knows who.

Lets end this right NOW.

I don't care about your decision to join the army.
Conditioning can and does happen. (Not to be confused with brainwashing, because you know, that actually has a different meaning.)
I haven't and can't say the Australian government is making you fight for an evil cause as I have no proof, just as I have no proof that it is. (If this is confusing to you, think of trying to prove and disprove religion).
And finally, I know you are in the army and you probably have some wonderful heartfelt story for doing so but ****, if there is a question about something your are directly involved in, chiming in and spouting "Your wrong!" with no back up doesn't support you.

Now I could get into what you are representing (The armed forces), but I am going to give you all (Yes all 3 of you) the benefit of the doubt and understand this is the internet and assume you are all nice and sincere people.

That's is it, I am not contributing to this thread ANYMORE.

... and then you went on to say that if Nazi Germany was educated about their wrongs they wouldn't want to fight. Which, honestly is insane. If they followed our ideology of course they wouldn't, it's all relative.

I'd just like to know how you propose we would "educate" a hostile force without the use of the Armed Forces?

Life isn't all sunshine and lollipops. We have the ADF for a reason.

gandhi bought about change without being hostile.
Nelson Mandella bought change.

You are right that life is not all about lollipops and sunshine, but how much have we learnt from the war mentallity? War has never prevented anything,

It's certainly prevented a fair few hostile takeovers...

Hell even the THREAT of war has prevented things. An well worked show of force can be very effective.

Check out Operation Paul Bunyan this worked incredibly well (unless of course you are the tree :P).

but war was always the last option, now it appears it is the second option.
First option is crippling sanctions before attacking.

I dunno, pretty sure the "big" country has always just intimidated the "little" country into doing stuff throughout history, the only difference is that with todays tech every podunk goat herding country thinks they can compete with militarized states.

The title of the thread is
Whoa whoa whoa, what is it good for

This video answers some of that question

This video answers the question of why I named the thread as I did:

But not all agree with the concept, that is why there was a debate.

I have to admit that my post portrayed far better than yours that war is good for something, profit

BTW, has anyone else seen an Al-Qaeda flag flying above the courthouse in Benghazi?

I think you missed his point. he split the start of this thread from somewhere else, meaning he needed to create a name for the thread. he decided on what is up there because of that song. he wasn't making a comment on what war is actually for. he didn't necessarily wanted discussion on the topic. he just wanted to make a name for a thread, and in typical lee style thought of something cool (read: silly).

I didn't miss any point, but apparently it was a little harder to convey that using the title was a good segway into the video I posted.

I may also add that the tittle is Whoa whoa whoa, what is it good for
if it was the title of the thread from the song "War" shouldn't the lyrics be correct?
"War What Is It Good For?"

Of course that would only be if people wanted to be pedantic

Have you listened to the song? Admittedly I'm more familiar with the Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover of it, but...

"War, huh, good god, ya'll! What is it good for?"
and
"War, wo-oh, wo-oh, wo-oh, woah - what is it good for?"

Would both be reasonable renditions of the lyrics at different points of the song.

Better than the Edwin Starr disco original, IMO, and a damn sight better than the Bruce Springsteen abortion. Ah Frankie... so many anthems for the mid 80s youth. :)

So focus on the song and not even a rebbutel of the video of profits being made.

That stuff was boring. Frankie Goes to Hollywood was cool. Ergo, I post about Frankie. :)

ps: I don't think you understand what a strawman argument is. It's not related to off-topic posting... at all. Look it up.
