I've heard of people who have finished these games, but I've never done it myself - Don't be suprised if it breaks before you finish. I've only ever managed to conquer half of Japan before someone hits end turn and it doesn't register with the other player so you both just end up staring at a screen where it's neither of your turns.
Sometimes you can get around that by copying the host's savegame and getting the client to overwrite his with it, but it'll eventually end up desyncing every turn regardless. Good fix if you're close to finishing when it breaks.
