Dungeons....

Unread postby Angeredsoul » 1 Feb 11, 12:06 am

So I don't know if anyone has seen this as of yet, but damn I am looking forward to it, the original DK's were awesome and there hasn't been anything like it since Bullfrog folded.

I've already preordered it over steam, just in case the price spikes like it does with anything worth getting on it.

Yeah, have preorder this already. It looks to capture the feel of DK but I'm worried it will be much more objective based. I just hope there's an endless mode where you can just build and kill heroes.

Yeah, another preorder here. It's got a lot to live up to but I'm willing to take a punt.

I tried the German demo of Dungeons and didn't really enjoy it compared to the DK series.

edit: There is a sandbox mode in it.

Decent write-up here about how it's a different take on the DK theme:

I live in London at the moment so we have access to the game before you guys.

But to sum it up

• It looks and sounds like Dungeon Keeper, it is NOT Dungeon Keeper. This annoyed me a lot, they have stated that it is not dungeon keeper (fair enough) but they have made it look like dungeon keeper

• Main Objective of the game: Entertain (Yes entertain) heroes then steal their soul energy. So to kill a hero you must baby sit them until their needs are fulfilled.
• It is not minion based and you can’t control them (as in posses them) or command them (move them), you do have control of your hero/dungeon lord
• It's more the Sim's then anything else, you decorate your dungeon, make heroes happy
• Very repetitive, and sandbox is just as bad.
• It says there are 15 monsters, but it's really 5 monsters with 3 different skins

Trust me and don’t buy the game, it’s a waste.

Yeah I agree, I am totally disappointed by the game.

None of the monsters interact with anything in your dungeon, this is pre-dungeon keeper 1 programming imo.

An actual dungeon keeper clone would've been better.

I shall now rant about the state of gaming companies altogether:

They really do take your cash and give sweet F-all for it. Most of the game only update their graphics from the version previous and that costs very little for them in terms of people and programming, new kids coming into gaming don't seem to see that - it's basically the same game as last time, but updated graphics.

A lot of what they do doesn't even make sense. Take a look at bad company, no prone. As a for instance. you can lie prone in BF2, and looking at the latest video releases of BF3 - again we can lie prone. So why not in BC2?

They really piss me off.

Back to dungeons:
I loved Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2.

Dungeons is a perfect example of a bad game, but great graphics so hardly anyone notices. I was expecting something almost sims-like for the creature AI programming, instead they went backwards, not one step or two, more like three.

Grab a copy of dungeon keeper 2 or evil genius instead.
