I'm hooked on GeoDefense for the iPhone atm... It's crazy hard on Hardcore mode (which is the default) and requires a lot of speed and placement strategy. It's got nifty Tron style graphics too

Defense Grid and Sol Survivor on Steam are both really awesome and if you have a PS3 by chance, PixelJunk Monsters and Savage Moon are also really good.

Just a necrobump to reccomend anyone with a 360 who enjoys TD games to try and buy Toy Soldiers from XBLA.

Seriously great game, bloody cheap to boot as well as the expansions, and as far as game engine, presentation, gameplay goes... I'd be happy to pay for a hard copy if I could. If it came out last generation it'd be lauded as a grade A game.

Not only are you placing your stereotypical weapon types (gas, machine gunes, artillery) on map-specific locations, then watching the enemy men (ahem, toy soldiers) get horrificly cut down as they advance, you can also drive WW1 tanks and take to the skies in biplanes.

Hell, I'd give it my GOTY vote easily.

How is Warcraft 3 a tower defence game?

The custom maps
Green TDs, Mauls & the other 10000 variations etc. etc.

Plus the Flash game based on those maps.

playing League of Legends, free game. But my god, its alot of fun

a new game on steam is out called REVENGE OF THE TITANS.
its quite a fun littel tower defense game and i reccommend it despite its 8bit graphics.

and then there is that ATOM ZOMBIE SMASHER game on steam as well. slightly different from tower defense games of norm but still fairly similar.

and then there is ANOMALY war zone earth - which is a tower OFFENSE game. i got it yesterday and have really enjoyed that too.

damn this genre of being so addictive.

a few more TD games ive tried lately on steam

SANCTUM: FPS towerdefense. co-op which is nice, but the game is brutally hard. santcum is sci-fi in its style. running around with guns, and placing towers where you want.

orcs must die: same idea sort of as sanctum. third person perspective of your char and you run around placing traps and soldiers (like archers).manic and a lot of fun, better than sanctum in my opinion. but single player.

Harvest. It seems this game has been on steam for ages. but i only just picked it up. quite addictive. game last quite a lot longer than say SOl survivor (say 30mins for that).. ive been lasting about an hour per map. you have limited units available, but you join towers together to make a powerful laser beam. the economics of this game is good too. you mine and you harvest solar power. the solar power is displayed as litle energy dots that flit from one node to thenext.. i really like this one. on par with revenge of the titans in my opinion.

Only picked this one up recently - it's a fantastic take on the TD genre, the tactical battle planning is brilliant.

edit: Don't think I'd pay $4.49 for it, though... I paid $1.99 when it was on special (AppShopper really is a must for the iStore - have picked up so many games for free, or drastically reduced prices).

Its ok, have put quite a few hours into it now. IMO definitely not the best TD ever. Orks Must Die however is one of the better ones i have played, there aren't enough levels however.
