I havent been able to play since I brought the thing yesterday.

Weird...

I bought it last night, downloaded overnight and started playing at about 10am, went off to to the park to do some boxing/training, came back and have been playing for a couple of hours.

Did you buy it through Steam, or retail?

Steam, same deal, brought it last night about 630pm AEDT, took a couple hours to download, tried to play it last night and today but I get stuck at the beginning of the campaign every time. Same for the quick skirmish option, etc.
There are quiet a few people whinging on Ubisofts forums about connection problems too.
Spent about 4 hours now over last night and today trying to find a solution/trying things to get it going.

When you flat out cant connect, and other people can and you are completely sure you have any relevant ports forwarded etc, it's usually something else again.

I had this issue recently when i went back to Dawn of war 2 after a hiatus, i could NOT connect to Games for Windows Live, and it frustrated me so badly.

Turns out the culprit was one of those proxy programs - you know like proxycap? That people use to improve latency to MMOs - modified my network properties or something. Uninstalling it was the solution.

Anyway with so many people using things like that in MMO's these days, if you have one installed and are having connection problems, look into uninstalling it and see if it fixes things - as troubleshooting every little thing only to find it was something beyond your control (as far as, a piece of software preventing it beyond the logical (ie ports)), is very frustrating.

Nup, Ive got nothing like that installed.
The problem is affecting hundreds of Aussie gamers, as well as South Africans and people from Norway, etc.

Ubisoft has really dropped the ball on this one and they still havent bothered to come out and say what the problem is or even acknowledge it. Nor have any support tickets been responded to since they were initially lodged by quiet a few people on the 25th, with many others adding to them since then.

I'm not getting it on principle that the DRM is too intrusive and ironically can be used to log usage data and many other things like system info and suchlike.

I still think DRM (especially this level of Draconian stuff) is just a waste of money for publishers (who then need to charge more to normal customers to get the money back) as Hackers will ALWAYS break it. Even more ridiculous is the attempt to move in on the second hand games market. Why the need to prevent revenue to second hand games resellers. It just harms the industry.

Until there's a patch to remove the DRM I won't get it and neither will my mates.

tip for anyone thinking of buying this

Don't

The DRM causes so many headaches and makes you want to rage so hard. I played the first 3 missions, but then it froze just as i was about to finish it. Then i updated the patch, and now i have 'cannot log in to server'

Can't wait until a crack comes out

How big is this to dload off Steam?

Are the DRM issues still present?

Is it as awesome as it looks?

It's a 5.8GB install off Steam. Not sure if they've updated the base install, but there was a subsequent patch/update that clocked in at a little over a GB as well (and that was through the bloody Ubisoft launcher, so no free Steam quota).

Sabbath Void wrote:Are the DRM issues still present?

Not sure, I've never once had an issue since purchase. One of the lucky ones, I guess. *shrug*

Sabbath Void wrote:Is it as awesome as it looks?

I'm loving it. Looks fantastic, I really enjoy the gameplay, haven't been playing much else of late - have sunk around 25 hours into it so far. Idiotic DRM aside, it's a really polished game. :icon14:

I was in EB games today n saw splinter cel advert, told the guy, "you realize that game doesn't work ?"

he says how do you know, it isn't out. I told him about DRM, an he told me to keep my voice down or leave the store. LOL

so they obviously plan to get as much cash off people before they find out as possible.

Told a few customers too, gotta help people who don't know.
