What the actual ****?

Can someone explain why I just spent an hour holding 'W'... I just don't understand.

It's a game about walking around and exploring.

But it's linear... I was so bored, but I had to finish it because surely there had to be something exciting at the end right? ._.

It's mostly meant to be an example of storytelling iirc. Never player the original mod myself though.

They actually made a sizable profit on their game of holding W. :P

I think it's interesting... to see how different types of successful games can be made. It's a great example of an idea succeeding over a formula.

It's interesting how one would pay $10 for that. It is in the Steam Top 10 at the moment, so maybe I'm the only one. I guess I was expecting something different.

I just didn't 'get' the 'story'. Perhaps I wasn't in the right frame of mind whilst playing.

You're not wrong! It may even be better that way :P

It will not be as every time you play it the narrative is slightly different…

I bought it a while ago because it sounded different, only played it the other day though. I don't get it either, the narrative seemed quite random and disjointed, and like other people have said, just holding W a lot.

Graphically very nice though. It almost felt like a project to put on a game development resume more than anything else.

That's really what thechineseroom is, the guy writes theoretical documents about gaming as a medium for a university if I remember correctly, most of his mods were designed to test out the ideas he had, thing to do with story, player reactions.... Was pretty surprised it became a commercial release though. Still, I'd love to do what he does so all the best to him, gaming need more innovation and theory behind it imo. Not to say he's gotten it right of course, haven't played it myself. Did enjoy Korsakovia though, despite having to noclip a little and it being rather buggy.

Interesting, I didn't know much of the backstory or about the developer. Cheers.

I certainly didn't begrudge the small amount of money I picked it up for, if people don't feel free to try out new ideas the gaming industry will get pretty stale.

I decided to check out their site and apparently they're working with Frictional Games (Apparently not, they've just let TCR work on this title, since Frictional did state THEY weren't going to work on a sequel. Gamasutra article on it Supposedly releasing this year) on the next Amnesia game (not a direct sequel), A Machine for Pigs. Had NO idea they were part of this too, only vaguely remember frictional revealing the first concept art a few months ago.. interesting times indeed.
