I definitely agree with the support 2hrs after putting in a submission I was talking to a real person, in comparison SWTOR I didn't receive any reply on my first 2 and the 3rd took 1 week for a canned response.

Has everyone met Nassir in The Scorched Desert yet? Funniest quest briefings I've ever seen in an MMO.

He is kind of a badass isn't he, wait till you meet the oxford researchers I think they got the English academic adventurer (with something a little extra) perfect.

Ive read a few reviews that complain about the writing but personally I'm finding it the best I've seen in years.

What server is everyone playing on? Whats the oceanic one?

I may be early in the game.. done a fair bit of Kingsmouth - and I have to say I'm not quite sold on the game... don't get me wrong, the mechanics are great, love the riddles etc... though the combat etc is far from impressive.. I've been quite bored actually. Perhaps it's just me?

I mean no disrespect to those loving and playing the game but it really feels more like an F2P than a P2P.

Thoughts??

It's just you!

I kid, the combat takes a little getting use to, it rewards mobility. Early on you wont have enough ability points to really build up the synergies between weapons to make things flow properly. All MMO's suffer from this to some extent but in TSW it's definitely more pronounced. For me at least the actual fighting is a very small part of the game, working out how to get a mission done with the least amount of trouble is far more interesting, along with absorbing the lore. I think I mentioned before that despite all the changes and innovations TSW is still an MMO, if this type of game play isn't for you then it's going to get frustrating very quickly. Right now I think the game could go either way, all the basics are there but the question will be can they tighten everything up whilst sticking to the commitment of monthly content updates, something almost no MMO has succeeded in doing.

I'm on Huldra but server choice isn't a huge deal since you can join a cabal or group with any one from any server, the only exception being you can only join the persistent pvp area for your server. It should be noted that though you can group with other faction in the open world you can't form a cross faction cabal.

Here's a question does anyone know the physical server location, I'm getting around 260-300 latency at the moment and was thinking of investing in a tunneling service but without knowing the server location its a bit hit and miss.

East Coast of the US.

New York perhaps, but that's unconfirmed.

Hmm if its east coast then 250 or so might be the best possible from Adelaide, it's disappointing I read a Dev post saying they looked into servers in Australia but the cost would of been extreme. Maybe in 10 years when the NBN is finished things will change.

I covered this in my review.

The combat takes time to 'blossom'. Once you get a heap of cool skills to play around with, and the enemies have different abilities later in the game to exploit this, it's really engaging.

There are also a lot of 'hidden' mechanics that are not immediately obvious unless you play around with encounters. I'll usually change my build mid-dungeon to match fights, because each fight rewards a different set of actives and passives. This keeps the combat interesting for me.

But yeah, Kingsmouth is just one huge tutorial area tbh. The Polaris dungeon there is pretty fun though.

This has given me a glimmer of hope for the game and I'll press on.

I'm not trying to troll the game or anything when I say it feels F2P - I guess I just haven't found the Hook everyone else has yet.

As I mentioned, the quest mechanics are fantastic! I love the frustrating riddles and challenges and having to think outside the box to solve some quest tiers by "googling" with the convenient ingame google browser lol (default page being google). And how many "fake" websites they've created just for quests and stuff - fantastic effort in quests - it was just the combat that gave me the "errrgh" feeling.

However, after reading what you wrote Marius I think I might just kick on and see.

I was discussing the game with a friend of mine, and I said if APB and The Secret World were to combine and have an MMO baby, it'd be spectacular. But I think APB's combat mechanic is a little too much for the game, I dunno, but I think it'd be amazing.

If you play this on an Nvidia card then get the 304.79 beta drivers.

One example I've found recently is using Killer Flow as a healer. Killer Flow is an AoE pistol skill that puts a pistol resource on every enemy surrounding you while doing a bit of damage. Seems pretty simple on its own and decidedly non-healerish. But if you also take the passive Coup De Grace, which gives your group a strong heal whenever an enemy dies with pistol resources on them, you can imagine how much easier Killer Flow makes add wave management.

A great many skills are designed in this way to be niche skills that seem bad on their own, but it's just a matter of figuring out what they're meant to be used for.

Just had a good example of the skill switching in action, actually.

A healer was putting together a group, so i changed to my dps spec, but once we started playing, was apparent he wasn't that great at healing. As the dungeon progressed and we faced harder and harder bosses, had to progressively switch in more heals so we could progress.

That's a good example of how it can be used to beat content even if your initial group sucks. :)
