Just saw this show up on Steam, i loved playing the HL2 mod version a while back. Anyone play this yet (or was in the beta)? How does it compare? I'd probably be keen to go in for a 4-pack.

Oh! I remember that mod. Dangit, I only just picked up War of the Roses for some medieval bashing fun.
Keen to hear what Chivalry's like, too. Someone must've played it!

This is the second Kickstarter I've backed that has released on Steam for the same price I pledged... *grumble*

That said, everything I've read about it (stupid work, or I'd be playing it now) has been fairly promising:

Adam Smith @ RPS wrote:The most impressive aspect is the way that weapons react to scenery, with longer blades and poles impossible to use in narrow spaces as they clash against walls and pillars. This allows for tactics and knives in the throat.

So, in lieu of the full writeup coming soon, here’s my two favourite moments:

1) I loaded my crossbow and shot a knight in the back as he charged toward a peasant, ready to lop him in twain. The knight had placed his shield on his back so as to wield his sword two-handed, to ensure the twaining was complete. My bolt thudded into the shield, strapped there, and he didn’t even notice. What does this tell us? Everything is modelled in the exact place that it currently occupies, from the angle of a shield to the exact swing of a blade. Collision detection is king. Yes.

2) Wearing leather armour and carrying a short sword and shield, I leapt about an arena stabbing and slicing at a single opponent controlled by one of the developers. Ha ha ha, I said, twirling my moustache like a less handsome and well-endowed Errol Flynn, ha ha ha, you are cumbersome with your plate mail and your giant hammer. Ha ha ha. He was dying the death of a thousand cuts and not for the first time. We had danced this dance several times and I was always the victor. Of course, he was probably holding back. I darted in for another strike and the hammer rose. One blow to the temple. The first-person view (third-person is an option) followed my head as it bounced into a corner of the arena, rolling and spurting. I saw my body slump to the floor, some distance away and then the hammer-bastard was standing over me, attempting to play croquet with what remained of my face.

Game is really solid, have to wait to see how the gameplay holds up in the long term but the combat feels fantastic. All aus servers are maxed at night though so hopefully some more pop up soon.

I haven't played it yet, but I've seen some videos and it looked a bit faster paced/more intense than War of the Roses.. I'd been sitting on the fence and read Wranglers comment and decided to go with it :D General reports seem to be that it's good fun though!

I was tossing up whether I should get this or not for the last few days. After buying it last night I'm glad I did. It's good to finally play something a bit different, that isn't just your average fps game. The melee combat is done amazingly in this, even with just 3 key moves, with the parry system also being good, albeit I'm terrible at using it. The weapons actually feel like they have weight behind them; you can't just run around madly swinging or preparing to attack someone.

The main thing that brings enjoyment from this game though, is just how damn brutal it is. The satisfaction of taking down one or more opponents is huge, especially when you get to see heads or arms fly off. On that note, if you're not one for violence I wouldn't advise playing this!

For people interested in this and/or war of the roses, I watched the below video while trying to decide which to get. It has a fairly good overview of both games, though it has an annoying ending to it.

Anyway, I'm glad I picked up chivalry, it should provide many hours of fun.
