Internode Server for UT

Unread postby Treloar » 17 Apr 10, 6:49 pm

Not having an Internode server to play on is a bummer.

Can or will Internode setup either a UT2k4 or UT3 invasion server :?:

UT3 I believe uses the Galtinor's mutator for invasion.

Here is a whole load of mutators, etc for UT2k4.

Lots more here for both UT2k4 & UT3

Here's a good 1.

If they should bring back a server it should be original vanilla UT2K4. UT is not an RPG, it's an FPS.

Edit: Found the Bookmark, I was considering to rent a server from http://quadeye.com.au does anyone know anything good/bad about them :?:

Quadeye have decent prices however their service response times are really slow and their TF2 servers are getting DDOS attacks made against them which is why my clan are no longer using them as a provider. We are using Hypernia currently who are quite good. I don't know if a Quadeye UT server would suffer same issues but just thought i'd pass it on.

It's pretty easy to run a server from home for you and some friends :)

Always rad to open it up to the internet and if your mates can't make it to the LAN they can still play from their own home :)

based on some outcomes I've had following cancelling the server with Quadeye based on incorrect advice on services offered by their main guy who now states he didn't tell me what he did, I've lost $90 of my own money which won't be coming back so definately wouldn't recommend Quadeye to anyone.

Did some further research and found:

http://www.gameservers.com/

They seem to have good rates, especially if you make the server private/passworded, you can choose to have no voice server, lock into a 12 month contract for 15% discount and a 16 slot server located in Sydney Australia will cost you $130.05 (As they are a US business I presume thats US$ but at the moment the AUD$ is strong.

So if I read that right it would work out to be $10.85/mth for a private 16 slot server. Seems OK.

Has anyone got good/bad things to say about that business :?:

It was actually the Internode/GoN UT3 servers that made me sign up to Internode with my internet, and been with them since. Is kinda sad there is not even one UT3 server now (or the player base to warrant one). The Unreal series are still so much more enjoyable to me than the current generation "level up" shooters of COD and Battlefield style.

Currently reinstalling UT3 atm just for singleplayer deathmatch fun (and considering pulling out my old UT99 disks for the memories)

The only real reason the player base died out on the Internode servers was mainly because of certain players doing multi-hax and no admin to stop it.

Definition of Multi-hax: When one player, running multiple instances of their game from various accounts on their PC, connects to one server, using several slots instead of one.

In Unreal Tournament, if someone is out/dead, when someone else joins they are dead too or rather they cannot spawn.

So what would happen if an admin looked in there would 3 or 4 players on 1 of which would be dead, the blocking player, whilst the other 3 would be linking each other for xp petting.

Definition of petting: In invasion with RPG monster/medic class, each player could summon 3 pets that would go fight and get xp. By petting with a player with high stat level of damage reduction, pets would not die but if the pets had low attack strength they couldnt kill monsters either, so lots of xp.

Essentially the server would be blocked by 1 player and no-one else could get on. Straight out DOS (Denial of Service) attack. And because we had no admins to speak of this went on and on til either no one played on the server or Internode decided to do away with the server due to lack of players in favour of more popular games.

There's still no game out there even remotely like UT99 .. including it's predecessors unfortunately.

imo the problem is that in the newer version(s) , you act & feel like a 10 Ton truck (because they are overly realistic) and it seems to have lost its Agility Feeling. UT99 for some reason , you feel swift and airy-like.. they also have it on Steam..

however I must also reinstall 2k4 / ut3 and re-visit these games soon.

Problem with UT99 is that there's no real way to uniquely identify players so that bans can stick.
DRM is like kids. The less you have, the better.
