Battlefield Play 4 Free BETA

Unread postby Cougr » 14 Dec 10, 8:32 am

Anyone else get an email with their key?
I don't remember signing up for the BETA...

Website: http://battlefield.play4free.com/en/

GameArena and i3D.net are the only Aussie server rental partners at the moment.

The download is meant to be around 850mb for the BETA, took from when I made this thread until now to completely download it, couldn't see my DL speed though, would have been around 500kb/s.

EDIT: Don't bother trying to play this game until it's in open BETA, there's only EU and US servers and it's one big lag fest...

I got one. Installed it and it wouldn't even open properly so I'm not going to bother.

Got my key this morning. It's downloading now. :)

Shouldn't this be in the BF2 forum though? viewforum.php?f=147

Well, It's BC2 mixed with BF2..? So I'm confused about what forum it should be in.

What part of it is BC2? It's just a free to play updated version of BF2 afaik.

Go to around 35-40 seconds in and it'll say what they're using from what game.

It's the BF2 engine & BF2 maps, i'd say that trumps weapons and classes :) Just as a suggestion for future threads

Got my key today. Time to go check if the client is on GON!

EDIT: web installer :dodgy:

I think that's why mine was stuffing up.

I was launching it via the website and the client would open but it'd be extremely laggy and not even work.. :|

There has to be some sort of reward for Dice here... Else they wouldn't have done it. And by "reward" I mean money. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well when you sign up, it says something like "We will allow you to have 4 soldier classes free of charge". So I'm tipping they'll charge for more classes.

Charge for more characters on one account, most likely.
Additionally there'll probably be a system similar to Battlefield Heroes where you can pay for cosmetic gear and certain weapons and items and so on.

And the injection of money will motivate them to keep it updated and maybe add some new gear or maps to it. And a fair few people who might get into it now might not have been around for the original - it was released a while ago now! :)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I'm more than willing to pay for that though, the game seems great fun aside from the lag.
