I suspect even if there is some word on it, he probably can't discuss it in public just yet.

Yeah they were just branded AUS. But seriously who cares, I'm usually the first one to complain about ping but this game really is playable at 200ms.

excuse my ignorance but aren't the individual games player hosted like war3 was (hence the wild variety of pings i'm seeing in the game) in which case why would it matter if there was an australian server or not? wouldn't we just join the server wherever it was in the world and sort games by ping to find the local ones?

or is the server actually physically hosting the games unlike war3... if that's the case... wouldn't they have to charge a subscription fee to cover the data costs?

The server is hosting the game, hence there's no port forwarding issues or problems when host drops or lags. There's no subscription fee and the game has a low price, it remains to be seen how they'll support the game long term.

It does run 'fine', however those with 30-60ms pings have an advantage, however small. When it comes to last hitting/denying and hero fights where timing can be very important it can mean the difference between winning or losing in many cases.

Now that open beta has started it would be worthwhile looking into Aussie servers again? I got so unhappy with no Aussie servers in WoW (they had aussie servers but not based in Aus). This was a major reason I left as although the lag can be used to ones advantage, no lag is always more of an advantage. Any idea's on the population of Aussies playing HoN?

being in open beta or retail won't magically make it cheaper to put servers in Australia.

For such a cheap/well priced game I want them to be able to afford to support it long term, so don't care if they can save a few bucks by never having a server here.

Edit - haha, saw that my avatar was still a christmas one so just changed it

Err, I'm pretty sure that somewhere in this thread some guys said they would provide some free servers once they release the dedicated server software. And the odds are they're way more likely to release the software after the release of retail.

Actually the release of the server side software is likely to be restricted, since if it falls into wrong hands, piracy would be large!

Australian servers would be nice, but the cost of hosting in Australia compared to the us is stupid.
