Are gladiators ****?

Unread postby Klas » 24 Sep 09, 12:16 pm

So I made the decision (mistake?) to roll a Glad as in other games, it has been a role I like to fit.

So far however, I'm finding it kind of useless. I have a far lower damage output than other classes, even if my opponent is standing still. Sure I can tank a bit, but the Templar can do it much better so what's the point? Infact the only really useful thing I've seen my Gladiator do is knockdown and as such it seems the class is more suited to a shutdown sort of role than damage dealing.

I'm hoping it gets better as I level up and get some decent snares and stuns/knockdowns. If it doesn't I may as well roll a new character now :P

Anyone else playing Glad?

I'm a glad, i'm having alot of fun and its dps to me seems to be right up there,
I've never stood next to another dps and thought oh **** his doing alot and i'm doing **** all??.

what level are you? i'm currently 19

I intend to mainly pvp and i've heard the melee aoe of glads is pretty awesome later on
This class feels more and more like a Herald of Xotli every day... without the clothie status and the demon form.

as far as i know, when it comes to tanking glads are offtanks , they can main tank with gear etc, but templars are the natural tanks. But I found my dps is high enough to have to switch to a 1h and shield due to pulling from tank every so often?. have you tried a 2h such as a pole arm? . don't level with shield and 1h !!!..

really for me the annoying bit is not having a ranged pull yet, i did have a bow to do it but now i'm carrying a shield etc for offtanking I cant really do that anymore sigh..

Yeah I'm playing as Glad too, I wouldn't say my damage looks bad, but glads seem pretty knockdown and crit based to really get the high numbers atm.
I'm only lv.17 atm, but I'm hanging out for a decent AoE chain so I can grind properly

Warriors aren't great at lower levels, it starts to pick up at about level 20.

Is any class good at lower levels? I found scout to be the same. I imagine priest is always going to have trouble being a slow and steady sort of thing.

Guess Mage must be were the low level lolz is at. Meh, at lvl 20 my ranger could oneshot herself if she fired into the sky and wasn't careful. Hitting 1300-1400 crits sometimes.

Having gained a few levels last night, and in particular getting the skill "Aion's Strength" things seem to be much better already.

Aion's Strength is a bit of weird skill. I'm not sure why they made it an active skill instead of passive? It behaves the same as a passive skill, the only difference is you have to reactivate when you die.

I've got the same setup, and I use the skill "Provoke" to pull when needed.

Think of Aions Strength as a Stance or Aura only one at a time

Oohhhhhh... :P It's the only skill I have like that which would explain why I didn't realise. Thanks. Yes I am a noob.

On that note, Weakening Severe Blow I've noticed interrupts. Is this part of the skill functionality (and the descriptions suck) or some other game mechanic I don't know about?

The skill itself doesn't interrupt as far as I know, but crits have a chance to interrupt. :P

It's supposed to be a rare occurrence, but when it happens to me it always happens at least three times in a row.

Healin - interrupt
Healing Li - interrupt
Heal - interrupt

Elongated arms or not, interrupts don't discriminate.

At least at lower levels (13 atm) it seems you need to weave abilities about your auto-attack, otherwise your dps will really suck. All special abilities reset the swing timer, like slam does in WoW. Lol I was wondering what Aion's Strength did and a google search brought me to this thread

So far glads fine pve but pvp it sucks hard lower levels at least (20 to 39), now people saying its balanced around 50 etc etc, .. but i've played enough mmo's to know i've seen that said in every single game with every class to know most people who say that are talking utter bull#$#$.. will see , maybe people are right, but i'm seeing some serious flaws with the class in pvp abyss anyway, its fun rifting so far.

But i'm certainly already see what classes are going to get nerfed hard and which are buffed.
