First Impressions

Heya, just thought I would share what I think so far of release.

Great so far, I have experienced very little lag whatsoever. Thats without using a gateway or anything. Only problem I have had is a few screwy quests and rangers have the same problem that they seemed to have in beta where I just stop attacking things.

I have ascended and am at lvl 13. Lvl 12 was a bit grindy because I seemed to have run out of quests, but 13 opened up a bunch more.

I guess like every game like this on release it just seems a race to get the name mob first etc. so there is a lot of rudeness where people are just trying to do the first bit of damage on something. But the channels help a lot with this.

All up I am really impressed so far.

I'm having alot of fun , I couldnt stop playing and reached 12 before i was too tired to continue.. I'm really liking Asmodian over Elyos, not a single pig find quest so far!!
and the Asmodian city i think is nicer but i'm not sure if its just the faction change or that i'm leveling a glad instead of a sorceror.. anyway having even more fun this time!!.

game is running fantastically smooth I couldnt believe it when i actually logged on and had a playable experience as soon as the servers came up, i had expected to try it laugh at how foolish i was to get up and try it, and then go back to bed but oh its working!!.

still its very VERY successful and every single channel was full and servers had hours of queues... oh dear, I think ncsoft really needs more servers fast!!

but either way i'm getting as far away from the start zone as i can before release!!.

got my spiritmaster to lvl 17 today. No lag ( yay!!), and I only had like a 15 min wait yesterday morning to get onto the Ariel server, havnt had a wait since. Im waiting for my friends to catch up to me so we can push on some more.. Im at a stand still untill I can find people to kill Krall with me.. those things can be kinda brutal.. lol. I hope to get past that tomorrow, as this was as far as I got in the OBT before I got bored and tried an Asmodian on a different server. Im really enjoying the game so far though - money well spent IMO ;)

Your problem was you assumed it was random. 1 piece from the cooks, 1 piece from the watchers and 1 piece from the brawlers. Dropped within the first 2-3 kills for me with each type.

You people have no idea what grinding or 'retarded' droprates are. Play Silkroad. I dare you to get to level 50 (cap is level 100, but that's unachievable in less than 2 years with 3 hours/day or so grinding), by hand, without rage quitting/suiciding. Example quest: Collect 300 of x item. Each monster has a 1/20 (tops, could be 1/30 or worse, I never really worked it out) chance of dropping said item. Completing said quest gives you 10% (out of 100%) experience if you take it a the level you receive it. This is a lvl 30ish quest, **** gets harder, a lot harder. I've got 3 level 60ish chars and numerous lower level characters generally around lvl 20-30. The game would be excellent (better than many MMOs, including Aion and WoW most likely) if the rates were fixed, but what can you do? Its got good graphics and awesome PVP. Its free to play too, although its almost impossible to get into the servers without paying for an item which allows you access to the servers even when they're full.

Anyways, played a bit of Aion on the 'first' working private server or so it seems, look it up if you're really interested, however I doubt you will be once you read the list of things that aren't implemented. I am quite impressed so far, even in the limits of the private server. Graphics are hawt, but smooth. This looks like it could be an excellent game and I'm looking for a new MMO.

They are yet to implement many things, they've basically just got the game running, you can run around, kill stuff, monsters fight back, gold drops (but not items, loot tables aren't implemented) from said monsters, most of 1-10 skills done, most of the 1-10 quests done, you can buy stuff (items etc) from NPCs. You can fly in the correct areas, (imo should be everywhere, but I can see how this could be OP for ranged classes).

They are yet to implement the level 10+ classes and skills, although they have stated that this will be done very soon. Monsters are also not scaled up by level, neither are your skills. For instance, my Priest's 'smite' did the same damage at level 1 and level 9, level 50 monsters do the same damage as level 1's. However, this is quite easy to fix in comparison to other issues. They also have to implement PVP, Instances (whatever they're called in Aion) and a few other important things no doubt, although these are also nearly complete, according to the Devs.

I realise that the 'unimplemented' section is quite long and consists of pretty much everything that's important in this game, however, all things considered, they're doing pretty well as the actual game hasn't been out for long, in fact its only been out for a day or two and they are promising to have a retail-like experience in the near future. The server has a great community and very active Devs, who continuously update the server.

tl;dr, Silkroad's retarded and hence you have no idea what grinding is. Aion's not grinding, not hard grinding anyway. There's a private server out that's developing but has a lot of unimplemented features so far (basically the whole game). Said server will be retail(ish) in quality in the near future. Aion in general is quite good and I'm impressed with the limited time I've played it. Flying around is epic.

umm your not really playing Aion, what version is this private server using?, the release has everything you just said isnt in it!!... I know its not my place but i really think only ppl who have played the actual release on actual servers should really say their first impression... that version your using would have to be over a year old

Nope. Its the latest version. The reason it missing such large pieces is that they had to emulate the server themselves. They have to completely make the databases this game works off of by themselves. I'm not that familiar with private servers, but this is extremely difficult and requires a lot of programming, which is time consuming. They're basically writing parts of the game for themselves.

Sigh. Why does everyone seem to have the intellectual capacity of a child?

The game itself is the same. Everything about it looks the same. However, its the server that's different. I'm running the same client you are. The exact same version in fact. The difference is in the servers. If you ran around for an hour in the private server you'd only notice a few things that are different between it and retail. Most people wouldn't instantly PVP, instantly get over level 10, and monsters generally are the same whether they do 50 damage or 5. So it feels the same.

I understand that fact that I haven't tried out many things. I'm very interested in PVP and the >10 classes, for instance. However, I've ran through every class (which has working skills up to level 10), which isn't that far, but I can see where its going, its quite a simple principle, done a significant amount of the quests, and I can see what the game is going to be like. Hell I've probably played more of this game than most people have on retail.

This however, is irrelevant. It feels like its a solid game and has a stack of potential even from my 'limited' perspective, and really that's all that needs to be said.
