You people have no idea what grinding or 'retarded' droprates are. Play Silkroad. I dare you to get to level 50 (cap is level 100, but that's unachievable in less than 2 years with 3 hours/day or so grinding), by hand, without rage quitting/suiciding. Example quest: Collect 300 of x item. Each monster has a 1/20 (tops, could be 1/30 or worse, I never really worked it out) chance of dropping said item. Completing said quest gives you 10% (out of 100%) experience if you take it a the level you receive it. This is a lvl 30ish quest, **** gets harder, a lot harder. I've got 3 level 60ish chars and numerous lower level characters generally around lvl 20-30. The game would be excellent (better than many MMOs, including Aion and WoW most likely) if the rates were fixed, but what can you do? Its got good graphics and awesome PVP. Its free to play too, although its almost impossible to get into the servers without paying for an item which allows you access to the servers even when they're full.
Anyways, played a bit of Aion on the 'first' working private server or so it seems, look it up if you're really interested, however I doubt you will be once you read the list of things that aren't implemented. I am quite impressed so far, even in the limits of the private server. Graphics are hawt, but smooth. This looks like it could be an excellent game and I'm looking for a new MMO.
They are yet to implement many things, they've basically just got the game running, you can run around, kill stuff, monsters fight back, gold drops (but not items, loot tables aren't implemented) from said monsters, most of 1-10 skills done, most of the 1-10 quests done, you can buy stuff (items etc) from NPCs. You can fly in the correct areas, (imo should be everywhere, but I can see how this could be OP for ranged classes).
They are yet to implement the level 10+ classes and skills, although they have stated that this will be done very soon. Monsters are also not scaled up by level, neither are your skills. For instance, my Priest's 'smite' did the same damage at level 1 and level 9, level 50 monsters do the same damage as level 1's. However, this is quite easy to fix in comparison to other issues. They also have to implement PVP, Instances (whatever they're called in Aion) and a few other important things no doubt, although these are also nearly complete, according to the Devs.
I realise that the 'unimplemented' section is quite long and consists of pretty much everything that's important in this game, however, all things considered, they're doing pretty well as the actual game hasn't been out for long, in fact its only been out for a day or two and they are promising to have a retail-like experience in the near future. The server has a great community and very active Devs, who continuously update the server.
tl;dr, Silkroad's retarded and hence you have no idea what grinding is. Aion's not grinding, not hard grinding anyway. There's a private server out that's developing but has a lot of unimplemented features so far (basically the whole game). Said server will be retail(ish) in quality in the near future. Aion in general is quite good and I'm impressed with the limited time I've played it. Flying around is epic.
