Aion Open Beta 1.5

Got alot better later , at first I was playing ok I could see the lag but about an hour into that, everyone got disco'd and for about 3 hours it was unplayable. But just as suddenly as it started I got smooth play and for about 6 hours was doing great, until I had my first crash in the city... oh well time for a break i guess. I was too scared to take one incase i'd get the lag back if i logged.

Gave up on Siel and Israphel too laggy and keep getting dropped....far to overloaded. Ended up going with Yustiel. So what are everybody's thoughts on the OB so far?

Apart from the constant drops and crashes i was having in the overloaded servers i have been having a damn good time on Yustiel. So far very happy, probably one of the smoothest OB openings i have experienced so far...mind you it wasn't exactly launched on time.
Damn good game to, a few things that still need to be tweaked etc. but over all very nice. I recommend anyone reasonably interested in Aion to get hold of the OB client and give it a bash.

I wish i could comment. i downloaded the 3gb patch, installed it and now im downloading a 542mb patch? what the...whats worse is i havent seen anyone post about this. ive downloaded all updates prior to this. did anyone else have to get it? i have 2 chars on siel from closed beta.

well as it turns out apparently there was an error after updating my game to 1.5 and it was trying to repair my game. downloading 542mb to do so at 40kbps. im actually finding it quicker to redownload all the updates (except the 1.5 patch) and reinstall it all over. i MIGHT be able to play tonight

played a couple of hours then on Israphel my ping was pretty **** like 700 odd... but i didn't actually experience any dropouts or really bad lag, probably 2 or 3 rubberbands that's it, not too bad but still annoying with the delay between skills etc.

as for the game itself, im not really feeling it yet, seems a tad boring. graphics aren't very impressive either, at least the ground & terrain textures anyway, they look horrible. ah well it'll grow on me hopefully. once i start getting some good gear and moving onto some new zones i might like it more.

Playing Siel is horrible. Constant lag, occasional dropouts, and I raged when I walked from one town to next and got teleported back to where I was because of some rather odd reason.

I'm on siel i tried another server that was much lower on the list when it was at its worst and suffered the same lag, then like i said it just went and when i was walking back to zones i used to be in it was gone their too. its really wierd it affects alot of ppl but for some random ppl i think it just doesnt. But you never know when your time is up.

Supposedly the issue with the lag that is happening across ALL servers, high and low pops, is the servers that NCSoft have gone with, couldnt handle the numbers or something, cant remember exact quotes.

But they reckon they are working on it.

And they seem to be, when i first started it was ok, then lag got unplayable, now on Siel and Israphel 80-90% if the time i get a ping of what i would expect with east coast servers.
So stick with it peoples and we shall rule all of Aion!

Well I just about destroyed my download quota to get the 'open' beta client, only to find that it is not 'open' at all. I have preordered but from a bricks and mortar store here, so no key for me

I made the same mistake - minus preordering. There's nothing on their site that suggests that you need an online prepurchase/FilePlanet subscription to enter the 'open' beta, which is rather ludicrous considering the size of the download. Especially with the banner at the top of the page inviting you to join the 'open' beta.
