Hayfever/Allergies

Unread postby Disco LT » 28 Apr 12, 6:21 am

So who else is unlucky enough to suffer these? I'm visiting my parents at the moment and was fine all day until I decided I'd go to bed. What a horrid night.. I spent 6 hours half asleep half awake sucking snot and even got up at one point to jam my nostrils with toilet paper to stop the constant leakage (I think at one point I sneezed and they went flying like rockets).

Up at 0600 because.. whats the point, I can't sleep, my right eye wont stop watering and I'm sneezing 6-10 times in a row.

It's not pretty. Off to the Chemist at 0900 for some Demezin 6 Hour Relief (it's the only product that works for me). They used to half a 12 hour version and if I took one tablet it would last the whole day, but the six hour only lasts well, a few hours so I tend to go through them a lot more. So I'll be at the chemist, being interrogated about my symptoms and why I need it, because it contains pseudoephedrine. I swear I'd have en easier time and be treated better if I was there for a methadone high.

Enough of my little rant.. I just thought I'd see if anyone else here suffered at various times of the year and what you did to combat it?

Probably would not have helped in your case but....

I started keeping bees last year and have been investigating uses/benefits of honey. Anecdotal evidence suggests that raw local honey can help inoculate you against hay fever caused by pollen.

I get mild hay fever during Spring so I'm keen to try out this theory this year.

Oh boy, been there and done that, though I think I used tissues.

Had times when I'd sneeze constantly, the only reason I could get any sleep is that after over 18 hours of sneezing every minute or two I was so **** exhausted. Eventually it got to the stage when my nostrils started to weep blood, the doctor said they were so badly inflamed that it resembled 3rd degree burns. He recommended Beconase nasal spray. Worked great, no more sneezing, no more itchy/watery eyes, no more itchy throat.

don;t forget to take a break from taking anti histamines once in a while, or your body builds up an immunity to them and you tend to find they don't work as well as they used to. :D
also that Fess nasal spray is pretty handy, i think it's just saline solution, possibly with other **** in it? good for unblocking pretty quickly.

The only nasal spray that I've found works is Rhinocort, which is pretty amazing stuff but it only prevents, it doesn't do SFA once you're in allergy hell :(
