I've worn a lot of boots over the years, but so far the best have been Steel Blue

Expensive, but worth it.

I don't know what sort of work you're doing but if it's anything that has the potential to drop **** inside your shoes I can't recommend ankle high lace-ups enough.
Bit of a pain to put on/take off but a halfway decent pair is as comfortable as any other sort and you can stand in piles of dirt and never have anything work its way inside.

I hope you went for the Olivers - they were the most comfortable ankle boots I had when working on the roads, to the point that I used to wear them for hiking too. Nobody in our lab had any other brand and even when dropping core casings on the toes, no damage was sustained greater than chipped leather. Plus, I was partial to mine because they were a dark purple colour!
