Tydus, the issue with BMI is that is assumes that being heavy is bad. And muscle is heavier than fat. So it tends to say that beefy athletic people are overweight.

I'm one of those people that never put on weight. As it is if I'm not careful about what I eat I actually start to look pretty terrible. Working out helps of course but I'm not very motivated. If I have a couple of hangovers in a row, skip a meal and just generally get too busy to eat I start to look a bit ill.
As a result I have worked out (for me at least) the most efficent way to quickly put a bit of weight on. For me it is soft drink, iced-cream (specifically maccas sundays), bread, pasta and milk. Sounds kind of normal i know but the thing I found interesting was that most junk foods have nearly no effect at all.
So while cutting junk food from your diet is always going to be a good idea for your health, be careful about what you replace it with.
Good luck.

But for telling overweight people roughly how overweight they are and when combined with its simplicity and ease of use i believe it is a perfectly respectable tool.

I'm confused, I think comparing someones weight to the height is a very simple efficient way of measuring if your fat, sure looking at weight alone can be misleading but he clearly stated his height as well.

Then don't say you are confused and can't see what is wrong with it.
