Scotch/Whiskies

Yet another pointless post to a topic but I also do love my scotch.

Well, fine. Two can play at the alcoholic beverage of choice game. This thread is about scotch and what ones to try, buy and avoid. Happy to expand it to other whiskies, but primarily, this is a Scotch thread.

Can say my experiences with scotch is limited, sadly. My very first scotch was Dalwhinie , which is still my favorite. My second was Dimple, which I liked enough to buy a bottle to keep around the house for special occasions and then there's Chivas Regal, which I'm not fond of.

I've also sampled Gentleman Jack and Johnnie Walker Black Label, but don't really hold an opinion about them.

So there's a starting point. What do you recommend to try and what to stay away from?

Anyone who says any type of Johnnie needs to just buy cask wine already and get it over with :hahaha: (that might be a bit harsh, you can get some decent wines in a cask now).

I'll take one of these right here:

Indeed that is a nice scotch Neko but its not one that many people can afford to drink too often :) I like to get a good bottle now and then but I am always on the lookout for a cheaper single malt that I can drink a little more regularily. Of the scotches around $50 this is the best one I reckon.

The Islay region seems to be a popular with you guys...

I'm quite new to the Scotch side of things, but it turns out I love the stuff! So I'll be definitely testing/tasting some suggested here :D.

Very poor, at $170 odd dollars a bottle

The Laphroagic is the way to goo, but too expensive for my tastes as a social drink.

Got given a bottle of Glenfiddich the other week, but have yet to crack it open. Should I wait until people are around and drink it socially, or like all good scotches, horde it to myself and sup upon the deliciousness whilst playing propfort?

If it's one of these http://danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_384111/ I'd keep it all for yourself.

when I'm poor I buy a Canadian Club Whisky and just ginger it up.

When I have the money, nothing younger than 18 years, anything younger is childish.

Oh and on JW, some of the premium stuff is great, Green/Gold/Blue label, but dont touch Red, Black is for mixers only

Since my CBA debacle has been sorted and I've paid everything that needs paying, I've decided to use the excess to treat myself. Am torn between:

Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt

OR

Laphroaig 18 Year Old Single Malt

Bought a bottle of this from Dan Murphys last night, came with two nice scotch glasses as well. I'm a sucker for nice glassware :P
