Feels good, man.

Background, I'm fat. Very fat. Went from being a runner who was going to enlist in the Army and loved pushups, to a very overweight bloke that smoked a pack a day - all at the tender age of 25.

Kicked the ciggies in January and going strong on that front so my fiance decided we'd do the C25K (5k depending on how fast you run). It seemed good in theory, but I was apprehensive as I wouldn't have walked more than a few hundred meters in the last few years in one go and had lost any sense of enjoyment that I used to get from working out/running.

So, I got home from work today, changed, and walked across the road to the nice secluded oval with my fiance and we began, using a C25K app on an iPhone to guide us when to run/walk. I pushed myself, managed to walk when I had to walk, and run when I had to run.

How do I feel? Pretty bloody good actually, my legs are wobbly, my calves and feet are sore, but I actually enjoyed it and am looking to doing the next step on Wednesday evening!

how much do you weigh dude, if you dont mind my asking.
also, great for getting off your butt, and have you seen the doctor before doing all this running about, get your blood pressure checked especially.

its hard to get into a routine and stick to it. The other half and i are TRYING to get back into our walking.. theres a place near us called the red arrow trail, 1.5km circuit track up LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of stairs on this lovely rainforest mountain range thing. we're both unfit and ... yeah.
your face, needs moar face.

congrats on making the life change mate.

I was a tough decision I bet to start a new habit to be healthy - now it will be even tougher to stick to it.

May I suggest

I'm approx 5'7 and weigh around 136KG - surprisingly my BP has always been spot on, even when I was smoking heavily. I knew it wasn't going to last, so I'm acting on it now before its too late.

We've tried walking before, but I don't enjoy it - mind you I love it after running for 60 seconds

I know I've just got to stick with it, wont take me long to start getting into it and enjoying it. Will also have a look around for some used dumbells and weights, as I got right into weight lifting a few years ago too and really liked it.

That will make it all the easier for you to get there! Go for it dude :D
I've recently gotten back in to my gym routine after falling out of it after 3 months and it feels great. I'm working to be in shape in a couple of months for a big trip to Vegas  stamina is what I'm gonna need over there haha!

make sure you write it down if you haven't all ready. your twice as likely to stick to it if u read it everyday and are held accountable.

good job man! it does feel good! I have been very lazy since leaving high school, about 8 years. And I joined a gym about a month ago, and started walking before that. and i love it! already feel so much better, and people are noticing the difference as well. starting to get muscle tone now and losing my chubby mid section. lost about 9kgs since i started walking. only thing i need to do now is improve my diet :) best of luck, keep us posted

awesome to hear you are making an effort and taking action now before your health catches up with you. the couch to 5k will be a great start, having it all written down on an app makes things easy.
can i encourage you to try and hit your diet at the same time as exercise, as you can run all you like but the food you are putting into your body is just as, if not more, important
another bit of advice would be to ensure you set yourself goals, but dont overdo it early on, as it can be a lot easier to let your routine slip when it is ridiculously hard. start off small, get into routine and let it build up from there. the fitter you get, the more weight you see drop, the more motivated you will be to continue.

i am 6"1 and 82kg. have always been fit and played sport lots, etc. 2 years ago i was up to 90kg, and last year dropped 10kg by changing my diet and amping up the exercise. losing that 10kg made me feel WAAAAY better, both on the inside and outside. so think how much better you will feel when you hit your goal! :)

good luck! and keep posting here, as fireslide said we will support you
