Dentists

I'm considering changing dentists, I have a growing suspicion that my dentist is an idiot. But it's such a difficult topic to come to grips with I don't know if it would be a good idea to try a new one or not.

It's taken me 10 years or more to reach a conclusion on my current one - 3 seperate potential problems I brought to his attention years and years ago have in the past few years come back to bite me in the arse after he pooh-pooh'd my initial concerns to the point where I thought I had nothing to worry about. If he'd had half a clue when I first asked it wouldn't be costing me a God damned fortune now to fix them. It's like pulling teeth (pun intended) trying to get any information out of him.

I figure generally visists to dentists are so far apart and what they do so obscure it's hard to determine if they really do know what they're doing or exactly how competant they are unless they're outrageously bad. Or so I think anyway. I don't know what the value would be in trying a new dentist because it'd be potentially years before I worked out if they were any better or worse than the last one.

I just wanted to know if my perspective was similar to anyone else's. Are people generally happy with their dentists, merely tolerate them or just accept that they're all probably a bit **** in some way? Is it worth me shopping about for a new one?

I went through quite a few dentists till I found one I'm entirely happy with (Which somewhat amusingly was my first dentist as a child), and though I'm sure they all did good work, I have a lot more trust in what my current one says and does.

Though you're correct that they're all probably a bit **** in their own way. If you do swap, and it's to one that someone can recommend or something, it'll at least give you some peace of mind.

Worst case you have an appointment at a new one, decide that they're really no different, and stick with your current.
