Old and reliable, too much to ask?

Unread postby inz » 14 Apr 12, 6:59 pm

Anything made by Toyota or Mazda - remembering a Laser is just a Mazda in drag.

/end thread.

Or, if you're handy yourself and pick a decent car, most things can be reliable to a point.

Anything with a 4G63 in it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi ... ngine#4G63

The engine is unkillable and can be quite powerful. In lots of old Lancers, Galants and the like (but you have to pick something that doesn't have bits that Mitsubishi is less good at making, like active suspension).

must admit my VR Exec with 335,000km on the clock is pretty damn reliable, parents bought it new and I've owned it for the last 5 years... never lets me down. Having said that I do maintain it properly :)

I had a 1975 Ford escord mk1, drove it for about 3 years.

it had 850,000 on the clock and drove fine. went through a clutch at the end of it and because of that she decided to destroy her own gearbox :(

As the OP and a few others have already mentioned, Corolla's are generally rock solid + easy to find parts if need be.

Yeah I bought a 4WD Toyota Corolla Wagon recently for $450. Including rego and road worthy I'll have spent $2500 in total to get it on the road. Pretty Stoked really :)

Toyota's just don't die...

Generally anything that doesn't have a computer in it or electronic ignition is pretty much bullet proof.

Early Toyota's Mazda fords, ( I won't say Holden as the motors in those are getting very unreliable unless you can get a 4cyl gemini)
early datsun's are great early Mitsubishi as long as it doesn't have the 2l astron motor(anything with the 2.6 is fine but the 2l is prone to blowing up) toyota R series of motors are the best imo, can't kill em, can run with blown pistons, rings, bearings and head and still get where you are going
been here since 2002 and never have i seen this place suck more **** than now

the 280zx has never let me down ever couldnt speak highly enough of it

the 323I even doing over 400thou + k's and not being maintained great or being driven often still works perfectly fine and can pull up a 50 degree hill in 2nd at 85 LOL!
