I know that if it was a HWP car that caught you (in NSW anyway) that you can contact the officer at the station and ask to view the ICV (In Car Video) that activates when they turn their lights on.

I am employed as a NSW Police Officer and i know that (most) cops dont just drive around giving out bogus tickets... if you knew the amount of paperwork that goes with a brief then you would understand.

Cops dont like going to court anymore than you do so if they gave you that ticket then most likely they witnessed it themselves, have you on the ICV or got you on lidar.

But before you go not guilty on that little ticket i would ask to see the ICV, and if it shows you speeding then well your out of luck.

If you have any questions just gimme a shout and ill help you best i can.

+1 I like hearing the other side of the story.

Quick question. Do the ICV's really show clearly that you are speeding?
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

You always hear about the bad ones. It's the good ones that go unnoticed.
Always a bad handful in every bunch. :(

Im not in HWP myself, but i know they definately show the speed the Police vehicle is travelling at and im pretty sure they show the speed of the vehicle in front that the camera is pointed at. Some of the more sophisticated cameras also automatically scan your rego plate and beep if your car has anything wrong with it like defects or is unregistered etc.

Its not hard to get speeding drivers though, if the camera records the Police vehicle travelling at 60kmph and the offending vehicle is clearly moving away from the Police vehicle then its speeding.

Lidar gives an exact reading of your speed (the little cameras they hold up at you and freak you out)

Didn't realize that this thread had been revived :O

I payed the ticket ages ago, basically as soon as gotoadgo posted on page 1 that it wont effect my insurance premiums in any way, which was my main concern, and decided that going to court was simply to much effort for 150bucks.

I am still 80% sure tho that they were wrong, I also just learnt that after 22kms over it basically doubles in price, which when combined with all the other **** with this ticket only increases my doubt. Anyway I agree with the most of you, its so much easier to just pay it and learn a life lesson, i'll leave the fighting the police for people with more time on their hands

What about technicalities such as the speedo of the police car being inaccurate?
Or not having a read out or any solid proof?

I've always been curious as to how this works.

The car speedos are calibrated every time the car goes in for service.

As for the lidars and radars, i know our local HWP station has a range at the rear of the Police station where they stand a marked distance away from the target, activate the lidar on the target and calibrate the gun there. I think this is done every weekend.

I for one am all for paying the fine if you are guilty. But if you are innocent and can prove it I am all for fighting it. Nothing wrong with that.
In saying that, I had to go on a 1 year good driving bond for getting caught speeding twice in a 12 month period on my P's at 15km/h or over. Admittedly both times I wasn't paying attention in that the first time I was driving angry and i even moved the fine from my dads name to mine and the second time I was going down hill having an argument with my gf, but I was speeding so I took it on the chin. The second time the cop even asked me if I wanted to see the picture and I said "no I believe you because I saw my speed when I saw your lights go on" from then on he was actually nice and polite to me about it.

And more often then not it won't even go there. Especially if it is a grey area.

****. Only if you sue them for lost wages/court fees. And the cops are most likely to say "here's the deal, we'll drop the fine if you cease and desist"

Then you're stuck with 2k worth of legal bills for $150 ticket.
