American Muscle Car Dealers in AUS?

Unread postby DeadlyVirus » 22 Jun 11, 9:43 pm

Hey guys
Just wondering if any of you guys out there are fellow gear heads like myself and family.
We are trying to find some website that sells old school American muscle cars, preferably rolling shells as that we can can restore/customize to our liking.

I'm mainly looking at a 1970-73 Plymouth Barracuda in a hard top, but if I was to come across a soft top that had a decent body I would settle for that.

But I have family looking for Fastback Mustang's, also in a rolling shell.

I've trolled the internet a bit and I've found several websites that sell old school American cars, but nothing in the way of a rolling shell.

So if any of you guys could help me out and point me in a direction of some places in Australia to that specialize in American Muscle that have rolling shells for offer that would be greatly appreciated Smile

Thanks guys

I think your best bet would be something like the Unique Car classified magazine you can buy from Newsagents.. everything from complete cars, to rolling shells, to rusty pieces of shite - but it's the only place I can think of.

Theres a company local to near where I live. They import and compliance (& convert) a large number of American cars. Obviously their webpage hasn't been updated in a while, however it might be an idea to check them out.

I dealt with them when I hit some wildlife recently, and they did a fantastic job.

If you're dreaming about finding some classic muscle and restoring it then it's probably just that (a dream), I strongly doubt there are a pile of classic rolling shells out there that havent already been bought.

What is this comment based on exactly?
There are plenty of classic cars/rolling shells/old resto's out there, you just need to find them.
You might not be able to roll up to a car yard and just buy one, but they are out there.

On topic. Perhaps while at the newsagency pick up a Just Cars classified too. Thing is great. Or, you can just rock into the news agency every month and just read the section you need :P

Also if you are in Adelaide, I hear Joe's Golden Gasolines are pretty good for quality american classics.

You pretty much answered your own question, cars like that are either hard to source overseas or expensive, one would think the popularity would only make them even more expensive for the buyer. There's also the fact that any dealer can probably make more money buying and restoring themselves then selling the end product.

Not always true. There are some people who restore cars and sell them and that is their business (If you are willing to start for 35 grand to upwards of 90 grand for a bara) but generally dealers wont spend the time. They may buy an already restored car from someone looking to sell however.
And you most definatley can find them, you just need to know what you are doing and where to look.

Most of the time restorations are done from the people with the passion for it.

Why do you want to restore an American muscle car in Australia? Mustangs are like a$$holes at the moment, and although a cuda is nice, the price of restoration here in Aus would be way over their real value. Believe me I looked into it!

You *might* find one in the US but it will cost you your soul to find all the parts required and then have it fully restored... unless you are in the restoration industry it's not worth the dollars. Panel work is expensive and I would recommend you look into learning your own welding and panel work to save you thousands of dollars.

I know of two very unique early 70's GTO's for sale both in mint condish.. one a Ram Air 3 and one of only 60 built with it's current configuration.

Aussie classic/muscle cars are getting harder to find, but the sourcing all parts and expertise in resto for these kind of vehicles is far easier than a US car.
